It is not healthy at all.
Yep, I'm constantly battling with Fable's weight, I don't see him as being cute because he's overweight, I would much rather he was healthy and slim like his brother.

The fat cats on that website were very worrying

I can't imagine a cat so tubby it cannot run about or play would be happy.

Disa's got a little heft to him, but he's not fat, and Hennessy is trim. They love to play and I love that about them.

I agree. I am always concerned if a cat is fatter or thinner than it ought to be. Bonaparte is overweight at the moment, as he cannot get enough exercise in the hunting season (the hunters shoot cats so I cannot let him out on hunt days and weekends in winter), but it is hard to limit his diet when there are eight of them to feed. Ellie is too thin, though it is her natural way, and I give her some extra high-calorie food to encourage weight gain. Fat cats are not healthy and get heart disease and liver problems.

I'm not sure what the OP's intent is. They made this thread just a couple days ago. Surely since they came back to start another they realized that their views/interest are very much not accepted here.

My old girl Smudge was a rescue kitty and had never learned how to play. She came to me at a year old, recently aborted and the kittens she had been nursing had all been adopted out. I also got 2 littermates at the same time and they wanted to play with her. She only wanted to fight them - not play. Occasionally now she will play with a string but only if there are no other cats around. I often call her Pudge instead of Smudge - just a round little girl.

If I could I'd try to slim her down but she won't move around and pushing her doesn't help either. She's happy, she's warm, loved and fed.

I think slightly chubby cats are a special kind of cute, but some those cats shown are just obese and do not look healthy. I know it is hard to resist a cat that is begging for food or treats, letting one get that fat is almost what I would consider abuse. They cannot groom properly or escape from danger. I wonder how those people would feel if they could not wipe their bottoms or flee from a fire.

I like my kitties to have a bit of meat on their bones but a truly fat cat is an unhealthy cat.... just like obese humans, the health risks increase as the weight does.

I like my kitties to be on the heavy side of normal weight.... ex. say the cat was supposed to weigh between 8-10lbs...I'd prefer 10lbs over 8. But I want my cat healthy too, so I wouldn't wish him to be overweight.

Having adopted an obese cat and dealt with all of his health issues, I would say no it is not cute. He holds a special place in my heart but chances are, if we adopted him at a healthy weight - he would still be with us.

Quite simply, you are killing your cat - you can hug a slim cat. People can make choices to change the way they eat and exercise, an indoor cat can't so I dont buy the excuse that people are like that too either

WOW - Those cats on that website are not just fat - they are overly obese! Yes, I think chubby cats are cute, but as I have said in many, many threads, I think ALL cats are beautiful! However, these cats are overweight and UNHEALTHY. There is a huge difference between being chubby (maybe a couple pounds too heavy) and being overweight. With any living being, being overweight shortens the lifespan of whatever it is that is overweight. Not only that, but obesity opens the door to many other health problems, like heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, kidney problems, clogged arteries. And what kind of life can an animal that is too overweight to clean its own butt have? I don't think a very good one.

My cats are heavy, but my vets says they are as healthy as can be. Monster is a large cat (I think there was a Maine Coon in his family somewhere along the line), he is large framed, has HUGE paws and he also looks fatter than he really is due to his longggg fur. MIttens is small, and stocky. My MIL calls her "solid", because she is very small frame-wise, but has a lot of muscle, no fat what-so-ever, besides her spay sway.

I knew a cat, his name was Fudd. He was my aunt's mother's cat. He was gigantic. He topped in at 25 lbs, which is not healthy unless it is a large breed cat. Sure he was cute, but he was TOO fat. I felt bad for him. And the problem was, my aunt's parents didn't see anything wrong with Fudd's weight. After my aunt's mom and dad split up, he lost 1/2 of his weight. This was due to some complications that arose because of his obesity. My uncles vet makes house calls, and came out to examine Fudd. The decision was made to put him down, because he wouldn't have lasted much longer the way he was. I held his face as he was PTS
. Fudds death could have been avoided, had he been given a healthy diet, and had someone monitoring his weight.

My barn cats are pretty porky now, but with them it is seasonal - they start eating like hogs about three weeks before cold weather settles in (how the HECK do they know) and when they start fattening themselves, I start digging out winter clothes. Not a single one is fat in summer, but about from November to March they spend their days eating and sleeping under the heat lamp. House cats never change weight by much more than a pound either way, if that. Overfat cats are not healthy.

My cat is a tubby, rotund 18 pounds, but he is a large cat and according to my vet he is at a relatively healthy weight.

Since then I have put him on a healthier food and stopped free-feeding him.

Chubby cats are adorable. Morbidly obese/dying cats are anything but cute.

I just remembered it. Did anyone here see the BBC show Fat Pets? Two people featured actually realized their pets needed medical care and a diet. One insisted that her extremely obese rottweiler was healthy. That feeding her so much was because she loved her. The woman basically had some issues that made her believe food = love.

I remember that. I think that one lady also had issues with not being able to have children therefore she projected her grief onto the dog.

I think it was more than just the excuse she gave. Probably depression from another source. Both she and her husband were overweight, too, though. So that showed likely ignorance (maybe intentional) not to learn better eating habits.

Like the woman with the spaniel (iirc). She snacked a lot and enjoyed it, thus thought her dog needed the same thing.

Your cats are absolutely adorable. And such personality! As a mom to previously chubby kitties, I just want to hug them silly. As many posters here have said, though, you may want to slim them down a little. I have found that wet food and regular scheduled feedings really helps that. Loving the kitties!

If the cat is a few pounds heavier then it should be for the body size, that is not a problem. Very overweight cats are not healthy and are not cute to me. I feel sorry for the cat when the owner doesn't keep the cat at the proper weight for the body build.

All cats are cute.

That being said I hate seeing overwieght cats. I just want to take them and start feeding them canned or raw! It may be considered "cute" but it is very unhealthy for the cat.

Mine do somewhat bulk up in the winter but that just happens with barn cats. Actually it like their body structure itself changes.
