Yes, you are right, this is the internet and there IS only so much that anyone can know about another..... but..

Understand that before I post this... I know that your intentions are admirable...

But as the saying goes, "the road to ruin is paved with good intentions"
I'm not flaming you, but from what I read in your posts it seems to me that you're in over your head, at least at this moment in time.
Realizing you're tyring to do the best you can for the cats you care for let's look at this for a second.

Not all your cat's have their shots, which to me, is the very first thing to do when rescuing, especially if they are going to be outside all the time.

You don't have an emergency fund anymore, which is understandable, but how do you explain that to a cat that needs treatment.

You're moving, and finding homes for your cats because you can't take them... not because you don't have to money to take care of them, think about that for a sec.

Yes, I'm a breeder, and yes, I still rescue, and yes, I've been where you are now, and finding myself there, opted to volunteer with a rescue org until I could financialy afford to care for my own cats.. does that make sense??

Mind you, I don't mean to slam on you, but its often hard to say things that need to be said... please consider giving up the rescue ops and placing your cats until you are more able to care for them in case something goes wrong.

I really hope things turn around for you....

I have to agree with Ken. When you can't get one sick cat to the vet and are caring for 30, then you are in over your head. As has been stated by many, this is only an internet board. We can't possibly be able to diagnose Felix from the few symptoms you post.

I'd rather see anyone have one or 2 animals and care for them well than a huge number that can't have the proper care.

Have you ever considered giving some of the neccesary shots to your cats yourself? With proper training, this can be done, and may be more cost effective for you.

Maybe you can ask your vet about this option, and find out if it is right for you.

You said you agreed this is internet and there is only so much you can know about a person and yet about my situation you are only going by what you've read in a few of my posts. You still dont know the ENTIRE situation. I still have money on the side for ANY vet needs. I just dont have enough to get them ALL shots..What I said in the post is that as soon as I get a job again(if they havnt been given away yet) I will be getting shots for the rest of them.

Not all your cat's have their shots, which to me, is the very first thing to do when rescuing, especially if they are going to be outside all the time.
To be honest, when I first started working with them, I wasnt worried about shots or anything. All I cared about was food, shelter and taming. I didnt learn the importance of shots untill a few weeks ago. I may have around 30 cats, but I still dont know everything about cats...noone does. If I had known...I would've probably already gotten them for all the cats I could while I still had regular income.

You don't have an emergency fund anymore, which is understandable, but how do you explain that to a cat that needs treatment.
And again I will say that I have plenty of money put aside for ANY vet treatment needed...just not enough to vacinate 30 cats and kittens.

You're moving, and finding homes for your cats because you can't take them... not because you don't have to money to take care of them, think about that for a sec.
I can take 3-5...which is how many I am keeping. I have the money for them...I just cant keep that many inside...it would be unfair to them even if I could. I dont like having to give them away...but I LOVE THEM....I have to find them a good home before I move...I refuse to take them to the pound like grandma wants me to do (she said it would be easier). I have gone without alot of things willingly for these cats. My emergency money for them is money I would normaly use to get moved out faster and to buy some new clothes and stuff.

I've been where you are now, and finding myself there, opted to volunteer with a rescue org until I could financialy afford to care for my own cats.. does that make sense??
I wish I could do that...not all of mine can just be 'given away' some are still too wild around other people. They need a special place to work with them alittle longer before they are able to be given to a home. Unfortunately there is no place local like that...and all the shelters here are 'kill' shelters. If I didnt care for my cats, I would take my money and leave now like I want(marriage
) instead of waiting here and using that money to keep them out of the pound. I'd rather it take forever to leave and I find a home for them than to move out and do the 'easy' thing and take them to the pound like grandma suggests.

I don't mean to slam on you, but its often hard to say things that need to be said...........I really hope things turn around for you....
Thanks for being nice with your complaints, questions and sugestions. I REALLY apreciate that...alot more than you know.

What makes you think I cant "get one sick cat to the vet"? In my post I said I couldnt sunday because the vets(2 in this town) were all closed, but that if he didnt get better I would take him monday. I posted this thread because I was worried and didnt want to worry myself sick untill monday if someone here knew by his symptoms what was wrong. I couldnt find him monday morning when I got up to take him. That night he came up on the deck acting fine. I was lucky. He could've gotten worse instead of fine. I realize now I was worried over nothing...but if u knew you couldnt get a cat to a vet (since it was closed)would'nt you feel better if someone here could give you some good news so you didnt have to worry as much??? That was ALL I wanted..I'm very sorry...please dont think I wanted to upset anyone...

I know...but there are things that have certain symptoms and it is possible for a member to recognize them. I just needed something positive...at the moment I was really worried. I tend to blame myself when something happens to my cats....just like we all do I guess. Im sorry...

That's a great idea! I have never heard of being able to do that. If it is cheaper...it would be easier...the few that arent completely tame, are fairly calm around me. If I could catch them and put them in the cage, they would freak and most likely need to be 'knocked out' just to be examined at the vet. If this option is possible...than it would probably be less stressfull for them.

I'm sorry, but I consider having cats vaccinated one of the primary responsibilities of a pet owner. I also consider it part of ANY vet treatment. Unvaccinated cats are left susceptible to ANY number of diseases, especially if they are outside.

I know that NOW Deb25...problem is I didnt fully untill a few days ago. I didnt realize the importance....and then when Felix got sick, I went online and searched every thing I could and the serious illnesses a cat can get that are fatal scared me...I never really thought about it since they had all been healthy...It's good I know, but part of me hates the knowledge because now Im scared and I want to get them all shots...and untill I get a job right now, cat food is more important to me because they will definately die without that. They have gone a year without shots (except kittens) and I just hope they can go a few months (at the most)longer. What I really hope is that I can find some people that will take all but the 4-5 that Im keeping. That way I can have enough money saved up to finally move out...(but if not oh well...they come first to me..and If I must I will stay here alittle longer).and they will be happier probably with less cats around. I just worry they will miss each other
They all grew up together. Well...Im rambling..sorry I'm just half asleep, I've been out all day with my fiancee
We FINALLY got to spend a day together

My cat was like that a while ago except shw wouldn't even come home at night. She was gone for about 48 hours. I wouldn't let her out for a bout a week until I could trust her to stay at home. Our actual sus picions were that someone was feeding her and she wasn't allowed to leave. I figure, if you keep him inside for one night and not let him out, then he can't go anywhere. Keep us up-dated. What happened?

You'd do better to just keep one or two versus 4-5. Though how you are going to find homes for 27 cats? Well good luck!

I'm not really sure what happened...unfortunately for me my neighbor built a pay-lake and I was afraid he had got kicked or something thrown at him by a customer. Then a day later when he started to have his nose run, I knew it was probably some sort of cold. I was very lucky...he got better and only had 'it' for 3 days. I have had 2 cats (male and female-mother and son female fixed) disappear for over a month now. I know how it feels. I'm glad ur cat came back and I hope u dont have to go through that again. I've done all to find them..I just hope they return. If only cats could talk
maybe my others could tell me where they went and whenever one gets sick they could tell us whats wrong

4-5 compared to 30 is nothing. I can handle them. I can handle 30 with a job, but I am moving and cant take that many with me in the city. I'd love to see me try to have 30 cats and kittens inside
What a mess!!
Plus of the 4-5 one is grandma's(Milo-male) and 2 belong to my Fiancee(Shadow and Rosewell-Male he is considering giving away one)...but he is going out of state to school in 2 months and I told him I would keep them untill he figures out what to do. I'm keeping Felix(M),Spica(female kitten of tourtoise's I have tto get fixed),Pretty(M).As for giving them away....It can be done. I've already given away 4 kittens. It just takes time trying to get references and make sure the people are really good homes. I refuse to let grandma take them to the pound so I can go ahead and save up the rest of the money I need and move. I'm not going to do the 'easy' thing and let them be most likely killed because I want to move out.
