I was on my way back to work after my lunch break. Just mossying along. We have a very very busy street that runs through a good portion of the city. At lunch time (especially in December) traffic is terrible. I was probably about 500ft from the light where I needed to turn but traffic was backed up so I was going to wait to get in the turn lane. But after three people behind me gurmpily honked (I had my blinker on) and went into the turn lane, I decided to go ahead into the lane. About 20ft later a white truck comes out of nowhere and BAM. He was trying to turn left onto the street, two cars had stopped to let him across but he didn't look in the turn lane. I saw him and tried to slam on the brakes but I don't even know if my foot got to the break.

Anyway, we're both fine. Airbags didn't even go off. But I'm already really sore and my knee is pretty bruised. He hit me on the passenger side front fender and just smashed it to pieces. My little PT Cruiser didn't have a chance against his quad cab GMC Sierra. The whole front on the passenger side is smooshed in, the fender popped my tire. It still runs, but the way the tire is I think the axle may be bent.

By a stroke of pure luck Josh's cousin and aunt came up about 5 minutes later. Funny how that happens. But Josh came and got me and they towed my poor little car away to the body shop. Already putting in an insurance claim.... We shall see.

I think it's his fault. The police officer said even though I was driving in a "non traffic lane" technically, he still says it's the other guy is at fault. I get the police report back on Monday.

The weirdest thing of all is I was thinking about a previous wreck I had had at that exact moment. I couldn't tell you why it popped into my head. Very strange how as soon as I started thinking about having a wreck I had one....

So needless to say I have taken the rest of the afternoon off!! Hopefully all the insurance claims and repair work goes smoothly!!!!

I'm glad you're okay!!

Normally, the person turning left is at fault. Around here anyway..left people have to yield. What if it were a child running out onto the road, whether in a lane or not, he still has to yield to anything coming.

Hopefully they adjust the claim in your favour!

Ask me anything about it, I am an auto adjustor...albeit in Canada but still can maybe shed some light.

I am glad to hear you are all right!!

Didn't someone else get into an accident recently on TCS?

I never posted about mine because it was just a little fender bender, some obnoxious child rear-ended us and pretty much took the back bumper off.

I hope your insurance claim goes through with no hassle. Since Michigan is a "No-Fault" state that means that NO ONE has to repair the damage to our vehicle. I hope you live in a much better place than this where your insurance company will take care of you good.

You recognized it as a bad situation. Nothing too odd about that.

I hope you're alright.
You may want to get checked out just in case. It's very likely you got some minor whiplash at the very least.

No, I had been thinking about it as I drove, before even getting close to where the wreck happened.

I think I probably will go get checked out. I know they'll just say take some NSAIDS and take it easy. But just to make sure.....

I'm also glad you are ok! With everyone rushing around this time of year and the bad weather on top of that, people just aren't paying as much attention!

Maybe if you're neck is getting really sore you'll get a few muscle relaxers?
If it and your back does get sore, a careful neck and back rub could help later. Along with a nice hot soak.

I've had instances where I've thought "I should have probably taken the other street. There'll probably be someone pulled over on this one" and there has been. This has happened about four times - and no, my town isn't that large and people don't get stopped that often in town.
I've also had a few times where I drove much slower than usual for some reason (thinking something could happen) and missed getting hit by people running stop signs. Another time I missed a skunk. If I as doing the speed limit we (skunk and I) wouldn't have been so lucky.

Glad you're OK, but yeah, best to have yourself checked, just to be on the safe side.

Your poor little Cruiser!

Wow, seems like a lot of this is going around, lately!

Glad to hear you're OK, even if your car isn't.
