After repeatedly taking my kitten to the vet for his constant ear scratching and after the antibiotic Ivermectin didn't work for what the vet thought he had at first (sarcoptic mange), he still scratches and I'm supposed to put Tresaderm drops in his ears since his test for yeast and bacteria came back showing he had some yeast and bacteria.

Does anyone have experience with Tresaderm drops for bacteria/yeast?

I'm really worried about further damaging his immune system with more unnatural drugs. I've been reading about natural remedies which include using vinegar as a cleaning agent for the ear.

I would really appreciate to hear anyone's experience with ear problems and what was done. (it's not earmites either and I've stopped feeding dry food and only feed can food now in case its allergies which the vet says he's too young to have)

cleaning ears is a Maintenance item ... Infection and yeast do need a chemical medicine to get rid of then there are possible natural items to prevent recurrence...

As for allergies ... the base principle is you need to only be exposed twice for an allergy ... yes 3-4 months is young and not common for allergies

I have used both Tresaderm and Otomax successfully to treat an ear infection. I agree with Sharky, you should use the prescribed med to treat the infection, but then you can look into natural ways to prevent it from reoccurring.

Best of luck!

Tresaderm is a fantastic medication for the ears. Remember to keep it refrigerated, and use it for the entire time prescribed. usually 10-14 days.

Mazy has trouble with her ears, because of a long time untreated yeast infection when she was a stray/shelter cat. When her ears act up, she loves getting the tresaderm.

Drop it in (avoid making contact with the tip of bottle and ear, if you do, wipe the tip with alcohol) and then fold the ear like a flap over and rub gently.

I have used Tresaderm successfully many times. I have Callie's ears deep- cleaned annually while she's knocked out for her teeth cleaning.

I'm planning to ask my vet about that for Mazy, Stephanie. Mazy has not needed a dental yet (she's 5 1/2 years old), but I imagine, even with nightly brushing with c.e.t. toothpaste, she will eventually. Do you see a difference in Callie after its done?

Zymox is one I would discuss with the vet for ears

Otto, yes I do. She has allergies and usually her ears get swollen (like humans) and the dried skin and wax doesn't flush out like it should, so it gets stuck. I have posted pics of the gunk in her ear previously on here. The vet gets in there and removes all that gunk and then usually puts this goopy medicine in there to help soothe her ears and take care of any potential infection. She's been prone to yeast infections in the past, but hasn't had one of those in several years. The goopy medicine is kinda gross, but it works so very well for her.

I went with them doing the cleaning while she was knocked out after I watched them (the vet and the tech) clean her ears once. Things like this don't normally bother me, but watching them hurt my baby did. (They have to get way down deep in there and she didn't like that!) Her little ears were so red from where they had to hold it to get down into her ear. I was almost sick to my stomach. I decided I'd never let them do that to her while she was awake again.

I would suggest you give the vet a call to let her/him know there is no improvement. The vet may want to have another look, and do a culture of the ear contents, to find a medicine that will work.
