Be prepared to have kittens very soon! Once the mom starts producing milk, you know that the birthing isn't very far. Well, as long as she is kept in a calm and peaceful environment. Cats usually attempt to hide their pain, so (in the situations I was in) they usually don't make a lot of noise. They will find their "nesting box" or hiding spot she deems safe and will have her kittens there. She most likely will just lay there and pant and continuously lick at her privates. A good idea is to observe from afar.. but most of the time.. moms choose nights and early mornings to have their kittens, so good luck trying to "catch her in the act". I was lucky to catch my one foster in the act, so I too watched from afar and helped where needed, but that's because she was sadly a first time (and last time!) mother.

You are of course allowed to prepare a nest and a quite corner in advance.
If she uses your nest or if she tries to find her own, is of course entirely another matter... But she will surely understand you are trying to help her.

How much she tries to make everything on her own - respective seeks your company when her time comes - depends in much on how much you are friends. If you are like most owners, she will probably try to do it on her own. If you are her Mom and you are the best of cuddling pals, she may very well acquire your presence...
This often unclear until it happens... So be prepared for everything.

Cats most often do manage everything themselves. But it is only good if you are prepared to assist if necessary.

Do have also phone number to a friendly vet at hand. And a cardboard box and the car ready if necessary.
And or, if you know an experienced cat human who did assisted at many cat births (or even dog births) - may be useful.

Try to look up cat birth, etc online or in a library book: not only for safety, but it IS also a lot of fun. Most people never experiences it.

Make sure she gets good food. Think kitten food, its the easiest way.

Good luck!

Any kittens yet? And Yes, you should certainly keep her inside. Kitties really don't belong outside, but I can understand if yours is one that just can't shake going outside. However, please, after the kittens are born, get momma spayed as soon as the kittens are 8 weeks and weaned. for a safe birth.
