Come on, now. LOL! Felix is a former feral!!! Let him feel important by acknowledging that he is a very dapper boy, wearing his tuxedo.

Bi-color, schmi-color! He'll always be my TUXEDO CAT!!!

I don't really see the big deal in using a cute discriptive name for cats. Sebastian (As you can see below) is a tuxedo cat...And his little half mustash just makes him look that much more distinguished.

The truth is to call a bi colored cat who fits the description of a tuxedo cat a tuxedo it is more a comment on the cats pattern than the colors.

I call Fae white with calico patches instead of calico because that is just what she is.

Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
It honestly never occurred to me to think that anyone thinks a "tuxedo cat" is a breed of cat!

That said... we have three bi-color black & white cats with Tuxedo markings. (GK is that ok?
) Billy's wearing a traditional Tuxedo, Shelly's wearing knickers, and Tuxedo looks like he got into a bar fight after the event.

I got the correct colors before I showed them (partially by asking on here, if you remember the debate on whether Church is a spotted or a mackerel tabby
) but that reminds me of one of the shows I went to. It was more of a laid-back show because it was a household pet only show at a big Pet Expo and not held by any of the cat organizations. Someone had apparently put their cat down as a grey tabby and the judge said "Squirrels are grey, cats are blue."

I agree! Let him have his place in the spotlight!

Thank you all for the information and for posting such beautiful cat pictures. I won't be troubled if anyone calls Marshmallow a tuxedo cat, even though he appears to be more or less a bovine type of fellow.
It never bothered me when the neighbors' kids got it all wrong and asked me when Garfield was going to have kittens...I hardly had the heart to tell them that Garfield was a boy.

First in the modeling world.....now it the cat world......

Maybe we should change the standards in those cat magazines. Let's protest and ask for more bicoloured cats to be shown. Perhaps Cat Fancy could have a special edition dedicated to bi coloured cats.

I guess its due more to me showing cats for a long time - I prefer to use the proper names for colors.

Its my pet peeve
I don't think it's a breed, I just think it's a cute way to describe a cat. I don't see what's the harm. I don't even know what breed Swanie is, and don't care. I didn't even know what "qualified" a cat to be called tuxedo, until I read a description one day, looked at Swanie, and said Hey Dude! You're a Tuxie!

My boy has classic tuxedo markings, but he's grey rather than black (or, according to this thread, blue--but he looks grey, and we named him Grigio accordingly). In any case, would you call him tuxedo if he's not black, since these days, tuxedos come in other colors?

Certainly, IMO, you may call your handsome kitteh a "gray tuxedo!" LOL My Felix came from an unsocialized colony from the mean lady across the road from us (she DOES feed--she just doesn't spay or neuter). Recently we've seen a gray tuxedo boy in the group. Felix calls to his "brethren" from the front window and we always say, "Look, there's your gray cousin!"

I had been told that tuxedo is a specific coat pattern rather than a colour combination. If the teller of this is correct, I have two black and white tuxedo patterned cats and one blue.

Moo. She's about half and half, not really a tuxie and not really a cow cat imo.

Here are our two tuxes:

The first is BooBoo, who will turn 14 in February. We think he's quite the handsome boy....

And this is BooBoo's fluffy Aunt Bootser (yes, she really is his aunt as she is his mom's sister). She turned 16 years old back in July ....

What pretty cats! I really appreciate everyone sharing their pics!
I spent Christmas in the home of a tuxedo cat, but he was
hiding.

Just had to throw some pics of my tux boy in here, too.

Here's Spencer, the once-feral kitty.
I just love his little white paws!!!
