WHen I took little Habibi in, the vet decided he was about 7 weeks old. She said his fecal test showed up positive for roundworms. He was also absolutely covered in fleas and his ears were black from mites. She put the Advantage Plus one drop flea treatment on him and told me it would help with the mites and the worms.

It did get rid of the fleas and the mites, but he's still having slightly bloody bowel movements, tho there has been no sign of live worms for 3 days now. Do the external drops really work for Worms? and if so, how long does it take to completely rid them from his system? do I need to ask her for a liquid wormer? Or am I over-reacting because he was in such bad shape?

You'll likely have to retreat for the roundworms, unless you retreat with the advantage again in 3 weeks. I'm not sure if it will do anything for tapes - I know Revolution doesn't. You kitten will have tape worms because he had fleas.

Was he tested for guardia and coccida?

See the other recent worm thread that tigerclaw made. It has a lot of great information.

And no, you're not overreacting. No one wants worms being spread all over their home, nor their pets having them. You must keep your kitten away from your cats, at least till another round of dewormer can be given. You do not want to have to treat multiple cats.
You must also assume that everything your kitten came in contact with before being treated was contaminated with roundworm eggs - so clean, clean, clean!

thanks for the link! Cleaning is not a problem. I clean like a madwoman anyway. I have to, with this many cats! And Habibi is being kept MOSTLY secluded in the spare room. I do let Smudge and Prissy in to play with him, but they've both had advantage treatments and I give roundworm remover every 6 weeks to all my cats as they are all allowed outside to hunt and play. Thanks again for the info.

Sounds like you'll have things under control!
If he wasn't tested for at least guardia, he needs to be since it can cause bloody stools.

I mentioned it elsewhere, but Bayer has a coupon on their Advantage site for a free tube redeemable when you go to buy more.

Hi,
I have been dealing with roundworm and tapeworms with my feral cat. Here is a nice guide and life cycle of the roundworm. http://ww.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=1+1359&aid=761 What the roundworm larvae do is migrate to the lungs and liver and return to the intestines a few weeks later that's why the second dose strange_wings mentioned is very important.

Tapeworms are synonymous with fleas. You might ask your vet about something like Droncit to kill the tapes, this is what my vet recommended.

You can also use a product like "Precor 2000 plus" to kill fleas and their eggs on cat bedding and carpeting.
