Does anyone know anything about bayonets? DH has one he wants me to sell but doesn't know anything about it. It has a black leather sheath and on the blade it has "ARTILLERIA F-NACIONALE TOLEDO" on one side and "2956" on the other. It has a wooden hilt with a cross hatched pattern. Any idea where this can be from? I searched the internet and came up with something simular but it doesn't have "1898" or "1913" on it. How much should I ask for it on Ebay or Craigslist, unless someone here wants it for their collection. It does have a couple of nicks on the dull side of the blade that my DH put in it as a kid. LOL Here are a couple of pics. I have a lousy camera, so the upclose shots are blurry... sigh.

DH removed the screw as a kid too. Don't ask me why.... he doesn't even know!

If it is that, then you can do a search for value. I was sure at first look your's wasn't domestic, and a quick search showed it came from spain
I saw that one but wasn't sure it was that. Another site I posted at said it was for the Spanish M1916 short rifle which is listed on the site you mentioned

Yours looks like a long mauser at least proportion-wise. Is that blade 18" or longer? I am trying to dredge up all the specs from the recesses of my memory, and it ain't working too well.....been a long time since I dealt with historical arms

I couldn't even remotely guess a value on something like that - I'm not sure how rare it would be.
DH has a German one from WWII.

Do a search for them on eBay and see what they're going for. If you decide to list there and it's a rare item, the collectors will find you. At least that was my dad's experience when he listed a fountain pen that he had tried to sell at the flea market ($15.00 for a whole box of old pens)...but no one was interested. So he put the box of pens under the seat of his van and rode around with them there for a while. Then he decided to list the pens on eBay.

Almost immediately, he begin getting bids and questions...highly detailed questions about that one old fountain pen. A doctor from New York asked for my dad's phone number and called him, offering to buy the pen for $200.00. My dad refused to sell, since he already had like a $4.00 bid on it, and didn't think it would be fair to the bidder. (My dad had integrity.) The doctor said "my friend is going to want this pen, but I am not going to let him beat me on this one."

The doctor did bid and he won, paying something like $240.00 for the pen. He sent very specific instructions for how he wanted it wrapped and shipped. He said he didn't care how the other pens were shipped. All this for a pen that spent the summer under the seat of an unairconditioned van. Sorry, I'm not trying to steal your thread. I just think it's a neat true story about how sometimes you have a real treasure and don't know it. I hope you do!
