Has anyone been through kitchen remodelling and can you give me any advice? Hubby and I are in the process of buying a condo, and would like to renovate the kitchen before we move in.

We would really like to have granite/quartz benchtops, tempered glass blacksplash, and just basically make as much use of the space as possible, but are wary of the price too. We want something nice that will add value to the condo (we'll probably sell it again in the next 5 years), but don't want to spend a fortune on it.

Any tips on how to get the best deals, and the things that are worth spending the $$ on, and what's worth saving $$ on?

Any advice would be appreciated!

anything you do to a kitchen or a bath will pay off in the long run! Thats what can make or break a house! In fact with Gary and I were looking at houses there was one we absolutely loved but the kitchen was itty bitty and we immediately crossed it off the list because of that!
I havent had to remodel a kitchen in a long time (I helped my dad flip 2 houses and an apartment complex) but I can say one thing I would change about our kitchen we have now. The counter tops are tiled and while yes they look amazing, flour sugar spice ANYTHING gets in the grout and its a pain in the butt to get out! I would much rather have one big slab!

You may want to look into learning to tile and do the back splash! I learned to do it when I was 11! (didnt do any of the cutting!) And I know they offer classes at like home depot and it would probably save some money!

Cabinets are worth spending money on. Find out what type of wood material the bottoms of the shelves are made of. Ours are particle board-big mistake. Also for cabinets custom/semi-custom or stock cabinets. Hugh difference in price. I think some of the semi custom cabinets are higher in quality-research the manufacturers.
How do you want to use the kitchen space?? For instance I went with many more drawers than in a typical kitchen as I feel they are much more space efficient that doors and shelves. I would also get under cabinet lighting-more task orientated. Just make sure the overhang on the bottom of the upper cabinets are long enough to hide the light fixtures.

Also it pays to go to a lighting place so the proper amounts of lights are installed. Many people under light their kitchen space.

As for counters make sure they can handle hot/cold foods, what about spills-will they stain (ie red wine) or an acid type product. Will they handle scratches if you cut a food item with a knife directly on the surface??

Just a few of the questions you should be thinking about!
