cat uses litter box but poop flies as he departs

Hi:
I have a 5 yr old neutered male whom I love dearly, but lately his toilet habits are driving me crazy. He uses the litter box just fine and I clean it several times each day, but lately, after he does his job, he often leaves poop on anyplace he sits, and at times, the poop actually does fly around as he scoots by. Maybe he's trying to get away from the odor ?

I have since changed his dry food to a premium brand (Wellness Core) thinking maybe its a dietary thing, and wipe his behind with a damp cloth whenever I notice any dingleberries. I keep the fur trimmed to help keep poop from sticking to it. I am getting tired of having to clean my bedsheets and carpeting where he leaves his "tracks".

I have been using Tidy Cat Scoop litter (clumping), and while I think of it, I am also annoyed that he leaves a trail of litter all thru the house as it sticks to his paws. The litter box is huge...like 18" x 24" so its not too small for Nicky.

I have had several cats in the past and never had this type of problem. He is very loving, but he is pushing the limit.

Help !

More fiber could possibly help. A little plain canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling - it has stuff kitties do not need) added to wet food meals is an easy way to do this. That is if your cat doesn't catch on you and decides to be picky - I have one like that.

Thanks for the reply. I had just a few days ago swiched his diet to the Wellness Core from Whiskas (less grain, more meat- hey, he's a cat, not a chicken !), so we'll see how it goes. May try your suggestion.

Did you slowly transition to Core?
Core was to rich for my kitty's tummy and caused soft icky poo. Because of this, she would drag out streaks of poo on the kitchen floor! (stuck on her paws). When I transitioned her to another food, that wasn't as strong on her tummy, I saw firmer stools and the poop "tracks" stopped!
I wish Core wasn't to strong for Neko, It seams like a great food and I hope it works out for you!

^ I won't even try that food. I know soft stools would be an issue with one of mine pretty quickly since it has chicken in it.

I've seen others mention that they mix core with another food because of the richness of it.
