tinker loves to open cabinets. I don't remember when she figured it out, but since they all work the same way basically she immediately does it. when i let her out into the kitchen, if I leave, i'll come back and at least 3 cabinet doors will be open, sometimes more.

So i got this cheap little cabinet to keep stuff in. i've been trying not to waste money, so i keep very little furniture.

I put a few things in it, and it dawned on me tinker would try to open it. I figured she'd wait till i left, but that didn't happen. I noticed she was sneaking up to it, so I grabbed my camera, held it pointing at her, and looked straight ahead (away from her) so she wouldn't think i knew what she was doing.

You'll notice she uses her peripheral vision to make sure I'm not looking lol.

then, I bust her and she sprints away

That was so cute!

It reminds me of my previous cat Sylvia. She could open doors if the latch didn't work properly, like my basement door. If I was trying to catch her or find her for something (like for medication) and she knew I was after her she would run over, open the basement door by pulling it towards her, go through it and then using her paw underneath the door she'd close it after her!

She really was looking to see if you were looking!

Love the way she scopes out all of the edges and the handle and then deduces that the top is the right way to go!

She's a doll! And super crafty!

Such a great "Busted" look on her face when she ran off.

I showed this to DH and he loved it. Dusty does this sometimes too. I wish I could get a video of Dusty opening a kitchen drawer to go up on the counter. She can jump up there but she is too lazy I guess. I have seen her do it but do not have a video camera and my digital camera makes too much noise.

Archie is my cabinet-opener! He doesn't try to be stealthy about it. I can be in the living room and I hear, bang... bang. bangbangbang.... The cabinets just pull open.. and he will tug on them until the door swings open just enough for him to get his paw in there... he pulls it open and slips in with it closing behind him. And when he's had enough.. he pushes on it until he achieves the same thing...

Now the other cats are doing it.
