My cat Beeba is just coming off struvite crystals. He is on Baytril 1x/day, a bladdar relaxant and a urine acidifyer 2x per day. I am concerned with the s/d food he is eating, plus the acidifyer he may suffer kidney problems.

I have been on the Cornell website and they say under no circumstances do the two together.

He had to be cathed for 2 days. I have the water fountain and he is drinking very very well.

Any thoughts on this anyone? My vet has never let me down, and I am hesitant to second guess him.

Thanks.

Talk with your vet
... there are several brands of RX available and some OTC also... I would wonder why the addition of a acidfiers with a food that should already do the job of that ... but it may be a beginning stabalizing treatment

We have a mix of struvite and calcium oxalate crystals in our crew, so our vet recommended c/d, and we were able to feed that with acidifiers - and it has (for over four years now) kept the problem at bay. I'd call the vet to ask your question!

LDG, Do you mean you feed c/d plus an acidifier? He will go on c/d after maintenance on s/d for 2-3 months. I will utlimately ask my vet. I am just looking for some preliminary info.

I hope like Sharky says it is a stablizing deal.

My cat Farley V had crystals years ago, c/d worked then. Crystals UGH!

When the crystals turned up, we put them on c/d, and the kitty with the struvite crystals went on an acidifier for a week or 10 days or something. But unlike your kitty, he didn't reblock. He may have continued forming crystals for a while - but he wasn't litter box hopping and didn't seem to be in discomfort.

I'd just talk to the vet. Maybe the pH of his pee was VERY alkaline.

OK, thanks for info. He has 11 days to go and he will be done with them. One less pill!
