We may have to get Sneaky a "friend"

This cat is going to drive me NUTS.
We lost our 17 year old cat (her friend Mistoflees) in August due to kidney failure. He would "play" with her a little- she more bothered him than anything else. And it was hard, at the end of his life all he wanted to do is just lie in the sun and sleep.

She was ok at first. But lately (and maybe it's because I'm home more since my semester's almost over) she is just driving me crazy! Constantly wanting in and out of the house, into the garage. Then she'll get her "crazy" moments where she'll run around the house wanting to play. So I have to find a ball to play chase the ball. Or find something for her to "hide" under so we can play "stick under blanket"

I don't remember the other one ever being like this after he lost his friend, and he was by himself a lot longer than Sneaky's been.

I don't think I want to get another cat until after Christmas. We have to go away for a week (neighbors are watching her). I'm just more worried about a tree falling over than anything else
And from what I've read, bringing a new cat into the craziness of the holidays isn't a really good idea anyhow.

Going in and out of the garage sounds like very catly behavior, plus Sneaky may be looking for Mistoflees.

Wanting to play is a normal thing for a cat to want to do.

I recommend you spend a good block of time playing with Sneaky every day at the same time. Spending a half an hour every night devoting your entire attention on her and the Games she wants to play will go a long way toward easing her anxiety.

Be sure to also give her a cuddling session every day.

Try not to make comparisons between one cat and another. Every cat is different. And it is very hard on a cat to lose a companion. Another cat is a good idea, it doesn't have to be a kitten.

While you are home more is the best time to bring a new cat in, but not right before you go away.

Well- it may wind up being a kitten

We've been talking about it anyhow for a couple of months. At our Sunday School Christmas party last night- one of the couples had found an "unwed" mother- and is now the proud owner of a mom and 5 kittens
They're keeping mom and a baby (she had 2 cats herself that had to be put down) so they've got 4.

And they're black
And that's the color that Mistoflees was
I just have a "thing" for black kitties- I guess once you've had one, you always want another. I told the family as long as it's not named Mistoflees the 2nd I'm ok with it. The girls are thinking Darkpaw (a name from the Warriors series)

And I think my friend is ok with keeping the kitten until we get back- there is no way I'm bringing a new animal into this house, then leaving for a week to go visit family.

I do think Sneaky misses the other cat. And I've caught her wandering around the house "lost" sometimes, maybe she's looking for him.

Congratulations on the new baby.

Tolly looked for his Bibbs for months. He would call for her at night. He would look in all her spots, round and round the apartment checking her nap spots. For a long time. It was heart breaking.

With Ootay I made sure he was prepared, and had a chance to say good bye. He was sad, but he did not look for her, he knew she had gone to the Bridge.

It's always so hard for the ones left behind. Both human and furry.
