I have one 8 month old kitty who is a skinny skinny boy, and my vet assures me it's natural, and one very small (not growing much)but fat 5 month old girl. I'm feeding them Royal Canin for 4-12 month kitties. I was just wondering if anyone had feeding tips to bulk Silver up and whether it is safe to have Zeph lose a bit. How would I go about this if they eat in the same area and steal food? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Are they only getting dry? At least some wet is good - not so much for adding weight, but for over all health. Plus it's easier to monitor wet food meals since most cats will finish off their portion (if they don't you have to refrigerate or throw away left over because of bacteria).

You didn't say if Silver was a breed or moggie. Don't worry about your little girl, she still has a lot of growing to do.

Silver is a moggie. A proud rough and tumble barn cat thinking he's a black lab.
The wet food is a great suggestion though. My vet says the litle one might always be on the small side too, because the poor baby was born with worms and had them up until we got her.
I won't really worry about her weight till she's done growing. You can tell she's used to being hungry though... she hates the feeling! Whenever she's the least bit hungry, it's the meow at mummy till she feeds me game.

Lots of kittens play that game. They become adept at it and con us out of all sorts of things. DH had a kitten trying to climb into his bowl of oatmeal this morning.

Your little girl could be small because her rough start in life, or it could simply be the genetics coming from her parents. Also, it's not uncommon for cats that become mothers young (and breed frequently in less than healthy situations) to produce kittens that become small cats. As long as your little Zeph is healthy, she'll be fine.
If she stays chubby when around a year, discuss it with the vet, but remember some cats can take a couple years to fully stop growing.

There's lots of wet food threads in this section for you to start research on brands that you'd like to try.
