We have a 6 to 7 week old kitten. He was an orphan cat we found. We've had him since around 2 weeks. He's been in a large crate, but lately, now that he's bigger and more active he wants to roam the house. We have a rather large house. When hes in his crate, he does excellent with going in his litter tray, but once hes let out to roam the house, He pee's and poops whenever he feels the need to where ever he's currently at. How can we start potty training this kitten? I dont want messes all over my house because I can never seem to get the smell up. Please help! How can I get this kitten litter trained the best way possible?

I found the text in this book spot on, but the illustrations aren't helpful at all. Good over all book

This mat caught my eye because of its size and texture, which traps fine litter rather well. It's large enough for jumbo litterboxes, which is also a plus. It's not quite as easy to clean as a...

This scoop was a freebie with some clumping litter I bought last year, and I like it so much that I've bought a second one. It's perfect for fine clumping litter, which it sifts very thoroughly....

Oh, he's still tiny. For now just pick one room for him - like a bedroom. As he gets a little older (10-12wks) his memory will get a bit better and he'll be able to hold his pee and poop long enough to get to a litter box.
Having more than one litter box is a good idea since your house is large.
Look for enzyme cleaners in the pet sections at stores or at pet stores. These are made to get all of the smell and stains out .

It sounds like he is on the right track.. Put several little litter pans around your house, because he won't be able to hold it to get to the regular litter box.. Make sure you clean up the messes with an enzyme cleaner because as he gets oler, he will smell the areas he has gone on and pee over the same spots.

As he gets older, you can reduce to the normal number of litter boxes, but it sounds like he needs several more as a young kitten in a big house.
In a multi-floor home, you'd probably want 1 litter box a floor anyways but may need multiple per floor until he gets a litter older.
