Vibes for Milk Maid's Bo

You may know from other threads that Milk Maid lost her dog Fozzie last week, as he failed to come round after a standard neuter op. This was on top of her cat Sylvester being run over ten days before.

When she took Fozzie in to be done, her other dog Bo, went too. But although he seemed OK after the op, he pulled at his stitches and eventually got them out. The vet put a staple in but he got that out too, and the area is inflamed and really bad looking. She has now taken him to my vet, who is going to put him under tomorrow and redo all the stitches. It turned out he was not given any pain killer or antibiotic, so must have been very uncomfortable. The original vet is the one who could not save my Napoleon three years ago, and who also almost killed my mare Maisie when she had colic, and I have never gone there since. Now they have lost another customer, but at the expense of one dead dog and one in pain for several days.

I know she and Bo are in good hands now, but keep her in your thoughts - she is really going through hell.

Oh my goodness, I will keep Milk Maid and Bo in my prayers. How horrible to have gone through all this.

Does the vet use the Elizabethien Collar? That pretty much prevents animals from being able to get to their stitches. Poor guy, must have been in so much pain.

Thank goodness Milk Maid has you for a friend.

Keep us posted on Bo.

Good grief! When is someone going to put that vet out of business?! Poor MilkMaid! Poor Bo! Sending lots of for both of them.

Thanks to both of you. Yes, Bo had a collar, but it was huge and hard plastic, and Milk Maid thought that it increased the problem - that the sharp edge of the collar was also causing damage as he tried to lick himself. My vet gave him a smaller one, plus pain killers, while he waited for his op, which is happening today.

I heard that Bo is home and much better this morning. He is still a bit itchy, but this time has a plaster on over the stitches that should stop him, as well as a smaller E collar.

That's good news, Jenny! Keeping up the for Bo. I'm sure Milk Maid is feeling relieved.

Ahh I just found this Jenny, thank you so much for thinking of us, and Bo thanks you all for the vibes you sent him. He is doing really well and will have his stitches out on Monday.

I'm late to this thread, but sending healing to Bo.

I'm glad to hear Bo is doing well now.
Holy cow, seriously, why is that vet still allowed to practice?!!

I don't know, but everyone I know who used to use them has changed, unless they are farmers within the catchment area, in which case they have to. The Ministry of Agriculture allocates a vet to each farm and they are not allowed to use anyone else. But even some farmers (like Milk Maid and her DH) will not now use them for domestic animals. The Head of Practice retired last year (he was the one who was so awful to me over Napoleon's death and also misdiagnosed Maisie), but the standard does not seem to have changed.

Well Bo is to go and have his stitches out today, but on Sat evening he managed to open up a small hole so back on with the plasters which he then managed to get off (this is all with his hat on) so I tried a bandage, even a pair of knickers, both of which he got off within 5 mins of me leaving the room. So we will see what the vet has to say to him this morning.

I know how worrying it all is, but I would have loved to see a picture of Bo wearing a pair of knickers!

Just to let you know all is well with Bo, he had his stitches and the vet said the little hole was nothing to worry about but he had to wear his hat untill today just to make sure, and although its not a pretty scar it is healing fine.

Glad it is healing, and the scar is not somewhere most people would look!

Glad to hear he is healing up OK. He sounds like a cheeky little rascal!
Jenny, that seems a terrible system with the government dictating which vet you're allowed to use!

It is only for farms. Milk Maid can tell you more as she is married to a farmer.

Glad to hear that Bo is healing well.
