So we just bought a house 2 months ago and our first time homebuyers check came in the mail. Our intention from the beginning was to use it for a kitchen remodel. I have some big decisions to make by Dec 9 as my husband works at Lowes and his employee discount is 20% instead of 10% until then, so we are trying to purchase everything we can.

I am debating a single basin sink and wanted to hear opinions on what you have and whether you like it one way or the other?

Thanks

Leslie

For a kitchen, I like having two. This way I can wash the dishes in one side and set them to be rinsed off in the other side. You also have to ask yourself, what will you do if there's a couple dirty dishes in the sink, you're in the middle of cooking, and you need space to for a colander (drain pasta or veggies).

Do you mean a very deep sink, like a farmhouse sink? I have a regular double sink in the house, and a single deep sink in our building. The single sink is very nice because it has a lot of room. And I wouldn't mind having one in my kitchen, except I have a thing about not wanting to wash my hands over the dishes. Since I don't put my dishes in the dishwasher until right before I go to bed, that would be sort of a problem for me.

Single basin would be nice, one of those huge ones. but i think I'd have dual basin, one of the deep ones, and the other a normal shallow one. seen those before and they look nice.

but to choose one or the other, dual.

The single basin would be a large deep sink. Haven't really looked at my options in dual basin. I would have gone to Lowes tonight to make some choices had I not gone to the dr. today and been told I pneumonia...

There's no place like home
Even with a dishwasher, I absolutely need a double sink. I owned a house with a single sink in the past and I absolutely hated it for all the reasons already given.

For the rare things that fit neither in my dishwasher or the double sink, I just wash them in the utility sink (I have huge stew pots).

And for the what its worth category, the most practical sinks are stainless steel, top mounted, and as deep as your budget will allow (go 9"-10" deep if you can).

I have a corian undermount sink which I love. One just wipes the stuff from the counter into the sink-no edges to worry about. Our double sink is two different sizes. The one on the left is smaller and great for washing dishes-the other one is larger and is great as large pans will fit well in it. What I think is important is what type of faucet you want to use.
