hmm, sounds bad. IRL, I was a workaholic in the latter half of 2004, and not by choice (I had super lazy co-workers)

but I can't imagine what it was like for folks desperately needing cat advice, posting, and then suddenly the site's down

Yeah, right! I was just looking at the emails we exchanged (I'm an email packrat), trying to figure out exactly how long it was. I swear it was no more than 4 days, but it felt like about 4 eternities.

No, not down for months, but about 5 months worth of data was lost, so some great threads are gone, and chunks out of others, and anyone who joined during that time had to re-register. 4 days was MORE than enough!

On vacation threads, I was thinking the other day that it is time we had a new one - the last was four years ago, I think? For those who don't know, volunteers around the world hosted the thread for two/three days each, showing all the others the delights of their own particular country/town/region. We included tourist sites, activities, food, shopping and just fun. And of course, our cats were invited on the virtual vacation, which led to many hilarious moments. Rigel, what about it? As our social/cultural secretary, can you organise something?

AND.... Jana found her original post about Penguin in a google cache! It's post #304 in that thread!
I think I found some other pages cached. I need to see if I ever added them to the thread.

I've had a bad enough day already....and you had to bring up this........what a terrible, terrible time! I still think it was longer than four days though.....more like four-ever, lol!

OMG yes!. I remember when she came back i asked her to post that picture of the kitten with that huge stuffed toy boot. She was so tiny she looked like a pea on a drum

I remember that day. I think I hit the refresh button 1,000,000,000 times. It was such a wake up call, as to how important TCS was to me. There is no where I can go and have a whole community of people who love their cats just as much as I do.

I can't believe it's been 5 years!!!

Yeah, I was trying real hard to remember who started it.

So I wasn't the only one? I was thinking I had jinxed the site, too.

I had problems with the Cat Lounge but others were fine.
