Here are some recent pix of the ponies. It is a bit muddy in the field, and they have their winter coats so are rather shaggy but there you go

All three enjoying their daily ration

What has she brought us today? Tiffin and Tartine ask the question.

Hello, there, Sweeties! Haven't seen you for quite a while, and even with your shaggy winter coats, you're looking lovely.

I was gonna ask that too. If I could I would give those ponies a great big hug!

Yes, they are full blooded Shetlands, the smallest native pony breed in the British isles. Maisie, my mare, only comes up to my waist. In the 18th and 19th centuries they used to be used as pit ponies as they were the only ones who could get through the tunnels - it was terrible, they lived 24/7 underground all their lives, and when they retired they were often blind. But they are very hardy and strong and totally lovable!

Jenny, I got so excited when I saw the thread title. Those pics are long overdue. Love those ponies. How sad that their ancestors lived such awful lives.
