Abbey had really stinky breath. I read somewhere that when cats have a virus that can cause bad breath. She had a really bad virus when I found her and the vet said with a virus that bad it can hang on for a long time. Do you think that's what's causing her bad breath? I mean, it's really bad, like poop. Makes Cammy's gingivitis seem not bad at all.

That sounds bad. I would take her to the vet and find the cause and some solutions for her depending on what they say.

She goes in for a spay next week. Five months is too young for dental issues isn't it? I think it's too bad for dental issues, Cammy has gingivitis and Abbey's is so much worse.

At 7 months Twitch had rotten teeth - so bad they should've been pulled then.

That said - bad breath can also be caused by digestive issues - if the food you're feeding isn't sitting right with her that may be part of the bad breath.

My bridge kitty, Sheba had "death breath" when I first got her from the breeder at 6 mos. Turns out it was part of a URI, and subsequent sinusitis. A round of antibiotics fixed it right up.

Good luck!

Sick kitties shouldn't go under anesthesia unless there's no other choice. There's enough risks with anesthesia alone not to add another.

Give your vet a call. They may want you to bring her in so they can check temp and get a look (or sniff) at her breath themselves.

I'll just bring her in when I take Cammy to get here stitches out on Friday. I'm sure she doesn't have a URI, she's acting completely fine and normal, and I've seen a lot of URIs in my kitties and kittens around here.

That sounds great. They'll both come home smelly vet-y that way, too.

I hope it can be figured out and the spay can go on schedule.

Oh gosh, me too! I do NOT want her to go into heat with all those tom cats prowling around outside!!

I don't think so, it's been like that since we found her three months ago.
