Ty was born with a liver defect and would not have lived more then a year.
The vet will talk to my sister later today.
It was not FIP.

Oh my! Poor little boy.

Thanks for letting us know. I know I (as a feeder of raw foods) am glad to know what caused his untimely death.

Hugs to you all.

How sad. I am sorry for you sister's loss. I know how hard it is to lose a cat unexpectedly at such a young age, but it's good peace of mind to have those necropsy results showing that she didn't cause this with the raw food.

Thank you, everyone.

I spoke with Ty's dr on my lunch break and she gave me the details. She basically said that from the way that his liver looked, he had a liver defect. This defect creates smaller than normal blood vessels and the body cannot control large amounts of protein. Since Ty was on the raw diet, he probably was eating way more protein than his body could handle. The liver then formed toxins, which ultimately went to his neurological system and caused the poor little guy to have seizures, leading to his blindness.

It's really sad knowing that such a great little kitty never really had a chance. No matter what I did, he would have not had a long life. I still feel that he was taken away much too early, and had I known his time was so limited maybe I would have spent more time with him or spoiled him a little more.

Today, his TICA registration came with me as the owner.

I should be picking up his ashes later this week. At least he will always be with me.

There was no way for you to know, and you certainly did nothing wrong. I'm very glad you got to spend the time with him that you did. He's a special little angel, now.

<<<<Warm, tight hugs>>>> to you both. Ty had a good life; he was well-loved and I'm sure he knew it.

God bless you both with comfort.

And, thank you, truly, for taking the time to let us know what happened.

Thank you so much for letting us know the results. Between you and his breeders, he'd known nothing but love from that moment that he was born and that is something. He will be with you always.

This sounds similar to the issue that another cat had that I worked with at a vet I was emplyed for. However, he was a wild bobcat kitten, but since they are related I'd assume it to be some sort of mildly genetic defect in felines. He would have siezures as well, followed by temporary blindness.

There is no way of knowing that this could happen. Perhaps this case can help other vets that have been involved with you in Ty's condition and educate more people on organ defects and how they process nutrients.

Even though there was nothing you can do, Ty had the absolute best life between you and his breeders. I'm sure no one could have made his quality of life greater than y'all. I am so sorry, and just realize that Ty is with you now.

He is one of those kitties that reminds me that some cats are just too special to spend much time here on earth with us. He must have been a special little angel that the lord needed to watch over all the people who's lives he touched in such a short time.
