I've created a Munster!

I am a night owl by nature, so when I'm off from work, I stay up 'til all hours. Well, one night I was up watching TV and Speck came in. (He is normally asleep with DH, though the other cats will stay up as long as I will.) Speck started trilling and meowing. I knew he was hungry (even though DH is in charge of feeding and he gets plenty to eat...take a look at his picture). So, I went in the kitchen and opened a can of cat food, though there were two varieties of dry food down for him to graze on. I know cats are creatures of habit, but I figured feeding him one time in the middle of the night wouldn't hurt. Then he did it again the next night. So I fed him again. Now he wakes me up trilling and meowing every night, and I get up around 2:00 or 2:30 to feed him. What I need help with is, how do I break the cycle? I can hardly turn down anyone who's hungry, especially if they're making such darn cute little noises. Please don't flame me, I know my cat is a little overweight. And I'm starting to believe this cat is playing the cute card because he thinks I'll fall for it.

Of course he is. It's a vital part of the art of begging.

Slowly move that meal earlier and earlier each night until it's a last wet meal of the night for all of them. If you could get them all on a schedule eating wet and dry you could probably have some luck with Speck's weight - at the very least you'd have some control as to how much he's getting.
