How I tried to 'kill' the kitten.

It's cold out, and cold means toting warmish to hot water to the horses and cats. The horses and the older cats love a nice warm drink but they forgot to tell Pokey that warm water is not poisonous. This morning, since it was kinda frosty (-13°C), I took out straight hot as I knew there would be ice in the cat dish and the horses' tub. Well, the old cats saw that steam and dashed for the dish and anyone who couldnt get in the dish made for the water tub and they all had a huge drink, except for poor Pokey. She lapped at the steaming stuff, pulled back, glared, sniffed, and turned a baleful eye on me and nothing is more baleful than blue eyes glaring in a dark mask. She thought she was dying (water was only, pardon the expression, pee warm after melting the ice) because her water was the wrong temperature. She retreated a few steps, and turned her hatefilled gaze upon the other cats, who were still happily occupied with a warm drink. Ah well. she will learn that warm water isn't going to hurt her, not that I expect her to be like Jack and want really warm water. I wonder what she is gonna do when I start feeding beet pulp to the horses.......the mind boggles. She is going to see Streak. Skinny, Jack and Tippy gorging on this stuff, and is going to have to taste it. Some cats love it, the rest ignore it. Not sure what attracts them besides the warm food.
