So I asked my recipient aka PushyLady if she would like to see pics of the rose being made so I thought I would just start a new thread instead of hijacking the Secret Santa thread.

Here is her original post: http://www.thecatsite.com/forums/sho...206520&page=11

I actually made 2 roses. They were just scrap metal that I had laying around. I cut all the petals out by and and individually shaped and textured each one for each rose.

So after I was done welding the roses, I used an oxy torch to color the steel with heat, then I coated the roses with laquer. Volia!

Umm, pretty sure you sent that to the wrong person, I think you really meant to send it to me
It's so awesome that you can do that! You could make a bundle if you made stuff like that and sold it on ebay! or etsy or locally or wherever!

Exactly! I think if you made those types of things you could really profit off of it! You could make whole bouquets or lawn ornaments, there's so much you could do. And I'm sure you know more than any of us how creative you could get, and you could come up with a whole bunch of stuff that people would love! I know I'd love a bouquet of roses that would never die!

Beautiful work, you are an artist when it comes to metal! Thanks for sharing!

ETA: Is that you "smelling" the rose? I remember the thread you started titled "Why don't I believe him?". If I remember correctly, you were down about your looks. You didn't believe you husband could think you are beautiful. Well, you were WRONG! I think you look great! And that is just a profile. You actually remind me of one of my best friends, who BTW is very, very pretty!

It's amazing to see the process. Who'dathunk something so beautiful could be wrought from scrap metal? The product is very lovely.

I love that rose - you are so talented! I would definitely have something like that in my doorway, and I know my grandmother would love that in her garden as well! Maybe you should set up a shop on etsy?

I am with Kittylove - before I knew what you looked like, the name Welderwomn brought up all these images in my mind of what I thought you may look like.

You are gorgeous and I think you should believe your hubby what he says!

That rose is beautiful and so are you!!!

How long did it take to make it? And I agree that you can make a few and sell on Ebay!! They would go like hotcakes!

Too cool!! Thanks for sharing how you made it, and seriously will you take orders? I didn't have a chance to post on the gift thread but that rose is gorgeous! You can bring in some serious extra money doing things like that. I would buy one.

BTW...you ARE beautiful! I showed DH your video and he was entralled....by the experience and by you...he loved your braids and your smile. Stop doubting yourself.

Wow! Thank you all so much for the extremely kind comments!

I estimate that it takes between 8-10 hrs to make one of those roses. I have looked on etsy just to see if I could have a unique product, but there are already a few people selling something similar and much more "finished" looking.
