hello all, hope you can help...my cat was a stray that was abandoned from her previous owners and i have taken her in...when we found her we felt a slight lump on her belly, which over the summer has grown at an alarming rate. It has a hole right in the middle and it leaks a clear and sometimes brown liquid and it smells very bad. We dont have any money to take her to the vet until after xmas, but if anyone knows what this is, it would be great if you could help. She is in no pain, but we wrap it everyday to keep her from licking. If pictures would help let me know...i could try and post a photo i suppose...I'm new to this site so I really hope someone can help me!!!

thanks a lot!!

Welcome to TCS ... This sound s like a abseess which is a icky infection... Please call the vet or a vet if this is the only "pet" and talk about the situation and the $$ issues ...

the first part is one of our main rules ... the second is some advise when you need a vet and cannot afford one
No online advice can replace direct veterinary intervention. If you suspect that your cat may be ill, please contact your vet immediately. You are welcome to look for advice in the health forum while waiting for that appointment, but never delay proper veterinary care waiting for Internet advice. Remember that cats, and especially kittens, are very adept in keeping pain to themselves and delaying treatment may cause irreversible damage.

If you cannot afford a vet, there are resources available to you to ensure your cat gets the veterinary care. There is an excellent article titled “When You Can’t Afford a Veterinarian” on this website, available at http://www.thecatsite.com/Health/76/...erinarian.html. Please read through it to find out more about the options available to you.

well thanks, but we have spoken to a vet and the only one close to here is asking for money upfront just to even have her checked...and my family can not afford this. It's simply not on option until after xmas. Could it even be an absess with a hole in the middle???

I do know taking her to the vet is a priority, but some families are not as well off and can not afford care as such. We are trying our best to get it resolved.

Perhaps you can talk with your local humane society, they often have vets that work on a sliding scale or for a far reduced fee...

it sounds like a absess that may have burst and gotten a second infection that is why your kitty needs to see a vet ...

Is this New Brunswick in Canada? Or NJ? If in Canada, can you share the name of a town? In the meantime, I'm going to PM someone that had to deal with a feral with an abscess.....

The abscess needs to be treated. This requires antibiotics, which you can't get without seeing a vet.
It also sounds very much like it needs to be drained. The longer it goes, the worse it can get - and it can get to a point that it is life threatening.

If you want to PM me with where you live rather than post it here, please do so. I'd like to see if we can find a solution for getting your kitty treated.

You may want to read this thread.... and try several vets, even if it means a drive. It's not the same health condition - but it is the same financial condition.
