Has anyone looked at the new Presidents Choice brand of cat food? I can't find the nutritional information online to copy (I'm sure it's out there somewhere too) so please bear with me if there are a few typos.

Right now our cats HAVE to be on a cheaper cat food (sorry kitties) but it's only for another month or so, I'm sure they'll be okay; and this stuff has no wheat or corn and is super cheap (well $10 for a 2kg bag - that's pretty good). It certainly passed the first test - Oscar LOVES it!!

This is their KITTEN food - chicken & brown rice

Crude Protein - 33%
Crude Fat - 21%
Crude Fibre - 3%
Moisture 10%
Ash 7%
Magnesium (max) 0.1%
Taurine (min) 0.2%
Omega 6 fatty acid (min) 3%
Omega 3 fatty acid (min) 3%
DHA (min) 0.08%
Calcium 1.1%

(based on what I know about fish food, that seems pretty decent, but fish are not cats...)

Calories 4250 kcal/kg

Ingredients: chicken meal, chicken, brown rice, dehulled barley, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols - source of vitamin e),oatmeal, brewers rice, potatoes, whole dried egg, natural chicken flavour, tomatoes, herring meal, salmon oil (source of DHA), brewers yeast, whole sweet potatoes, whole carrots, whole blueberries, whole cranberries, whole apples, dl-methionine, potassium chloride, calcium sulphate, salt, choline chloride, taurin, vtimans & chelated minerals (vitamin e, vitamin c. niacin, inositol, vitamin a, thiamine monoitrate, d-calcium pantothenate, pyrdioxine, hydrochloride, riboflavin, vitamin k, beta carotene, vitamin d3, folic acid, biotin, vitamin b12, zinc proteinate, ferrous sulphate, zinc oxide, iron proteinate, copper sulphate, copper proteinate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, calcium iodate, sodium selenite), algae extract (source of DHA), chicory roots, probiotics (lactobacillus acidophilus, lactobacillus casei, entercoccus faecium, bifidobacerium thermophilum) digestive enzymes, yucca schidigera, dried rosmary

(phew!!)

I am aware their have been some contamination issues with Nutrition First in the past but PC has been overhauling ALL of their brand-name products in the last 5 years or so and I do trust their products.

Other then a few strange ingredients (tomatoes?) it seems like a nice inexpensive food, but I wanted to ask the 'experts'!!

many fish are carnivores

Calories 4250 kcal/kg If it is an ave size and wt kibble approx 483 calories a cup which is solid if not a bit higher than ave

Nearly all products have ISSUES ... so IMHO it is did they do something about it and are they willing to say what they did

I did allot of educating myself when I was keeping Oscars (south american chiclid) - if this were a fish food I'd be all over it!! I'd like slightly less ash & moisture just for better economy, in fact if I still had my oscar (sadly passed on
) I'd probably just buy them this instead of ultra-expensive commercial fish food!

Should I supplement his diet with anything if we continue to feed this food?

canned food IMHO is a great addition as dry is not an optimal diet ...

cooked meats ( ie no seasoning are also good ) in small amounts

In cat food Grain and starch are like chemical coloring agents in fish food... some fish do fine with them others cannot handle them at all
..But neither is needed
. I also keep fish

What about beef?

We just purchased a large section of cow & i've been toying with the idea of taking some of the tougher cuts & giving them to the cats

I'll have to ask you again in a few weeks, I think we're going to start buying the adult food too once their current food starts running out
