Just curious

Did you keep/change your kitty's name from the previous owner/guardian?

Daisy was nameless when I got her.

Penny's previous name was "Baby". She didn't have a real owner, just someone who trapped her from the wild and took care of her for less than 2 weeks. Now she's more like "bratty alpha baby"

... just joking. They're both my beautiful furbabies. Come to think of it, Daisy didn't have a real owner either. I think she was part of a rescued litter.

P.S. What color coat does Daisy have? I know it's tabby. But as far as color, I call it "smoke" because it's too warm to be gray, and has some buff color (like a cigarette filter).

Daisy looks like a brown mackerel tabby to me. They don't use the term "gray" to refer to cat coloration, and smoke refers to a specific type of coloring in cats where the base of the coat is white.

Most of my cats were feral kitten rescues so they didn't have names before. Sneakers and Roxy were not though and we did end up keeping their names. I was going to rename Sneakers but I never came up with anything that fit her. Roxy was going to be Rorschach and possibly Rory for short but we ended up just keeping the breeder's name for her Roxy. We did put Rorschach as part of her registered name though so techinically she is named Rorschach and you could say that Roxy could be a nickname for Rorschach...

Cindy and Fawn were rescues, and the woman who fostered them does not believe in naming her rescues. During the four or so months they were with her, she referred to them by their personalities, rather than giving them names. I forget how she characterized Fawn, but Cindy was "shy kitty" -- and for good reason -- she IS shy until she decides she knows you well enough, which takes quite a while. As for how they got their names, we did as we normally do -- let them tell us -- sounds weird, but it works.

We got Jamie as a kitten, and he was called "Tercius" by the family that fostered his mother. The kittens were Primus (actually "Prima", the only female), Secundus, Tercius, Quartus and Quintus. The family kept Secundus and Quartus, and when a stray came along that looked like Jamie, he was taken in and called "Tercia" because he was so dainty that he looked female.

GoldenKitty could tell you what color Daisy is.

I kept Autumns name, she came with it from the shelter. I was going to change it (I like to let my cats "pick" thier names also
) - but it really fits her well, so Autumn she was and Autumn she will stay.

Thanks. I was unaware of that.

I once knew a girl with a cat named Lucy - Lucy was an undeniable brown tabby. like a bold milk chocolate with a bit of cinnamon. That, to me is brown. (jmho) But I'm glad my camera picked up Daisy's true colors. What you guys see here is accurate.

This is what "smoke" looks like

Four out of five have kept their original/previous names, only Luna got a new name, her breeder called her Dascha (pronounced the german way
).

Most of my cats did not come to me with names. Kipper and his brothers were ferals abandoned in a heating duct by their mother. I got Mira after answering an ad in the paper for free kittens, the lady hadn't named them yet because she couldn't keep the kittens and felt that naming them would make it harder for her to give them up. I'm sure Armani had a name before his previous owners dumped him on the side of the road but I have no way of knowing what it was. He comes to Armani now so I guess it doesn't matter. I named Mira's 3 kittens Penny, Daisy, and Simon.

Callie and Missy were orignally Chloe and Furby. I knew Missy was called Furby and I wasn't crazy about the name so I changed it to Missy because that's just what she looked like to me. I didn't know that Callie was Chloe until after I dubbed her Callie. I now wish I had kept the orignal name because I like it better and it suits her but I was used to calling her Callie and she already recognized it as her name. I'm assuming she wasn't talked to much when her name was Chloe so to her Callie is the only name she's ever had. No point in changing it now and confusing her.

And I'm very curious to know the answer to c1atsite's question about Daisy's coloring because that is exactly what Simon looks like. Penny is similar in color, though not as warm (she's more grey than brown, so to speak) but she has tan-colored tortoise shell markings along with the stripes. I've never seen anything like it. If anybody has any idea what to call that, I'd really like to know.

Topaz was a stray so I had no idea what her previous owners called her.

Aristotle was nicknamed "Ghost" by the woman who fostered his mother and littermates.

We kept the names the shelter named our kitties, except that Cynthia got shortened to Cindy most of the time, and we have a lot of nicknames for them both.

Alley was the name perhaps given her by the shelter people so we just kept that as her name. Alley cat sounded quite cool and we saw no reason to change it. But whatever, she is STRICTLY an indoor cat now and seems very content staying in the house.

3 of my bobcats that I rescued, I changed their names. Boris' name was Bob (a typical name for a bobcat
) He was still a very young kitten when we got him. Natasha, who was a kitten as well, her name was Jasper. I liked the name Natasha to go with Boris
Nakoma had his name changed twice. When he was taken from his original owner, his name was Nakoma. The temporary owner named him....Bob. When we got him, we gave him back his original name of Nakoma.

In the horse world that is considered very bad luck.

We did change Tia's name (Tasha!!
) but she came from a shelter & her sister was Mia; so that wasn't really a real name!!

We did actually change Kia's name (Kayla our dog) from her old owners, but we thought it was a silly name to give a collie! :S

Genever was Miss Boo Bear at the SPCA. When we took her home I even told the ladies at the desk "That name has got to go." I mean, really? Miss Boo Bear? Come on!

Polly had a few names, when she was a newborn I think she was called Cuddles, then when she was at the farm she was called Rocky. Then when we saved her we called her Polly.

The Chairman Squishy Meow was Bailey at the shelter. He's a bit fat Squishy cat, and I figured deserved a bit long name.

Margo & Molly were Margo & Molly at the shelter.

Camille was Camille at the shelter (still is technically a shelter cat/foster cat). I don't know that she's going to get adopted, & I'd like to change her name.

I don't know that Eden had a name.
