By this I mean how many have cats that like to lay over/around your shoulders when you are sitting, and like to ride on your shoulders when walking?

Autumn loves it! She started out when she was a kitten, and when she wanted to get down I would always hold my arms really still so she could use them as a platform to jump down, now she is so used to it, I just have to go to a table, couch or bed and bend slightly and she knows the ride is over.

lazy kitty, I think she just wants to get out of walking up the stairs sometimes!

My son has 2 cats that are shoulder kitties. They are definitely NOT lap cats though.

My 2 are lap cats, and I've never found a reason to put them on my shoulders!

Our OTB Max was the ultimate shoulder rider. At 18 pounds, he would lay on DH's shoulders while he would cook dinner, and stay up there without having to be held. Thank heavens he was a manx (nubby) or his tail would get in the food.

Muddy is my current shoulder rider, but only the left shoulder and only when I'm standing.

My boy, Walter, is a shoulder kitty. He'll even jump onto my shoulders when I'm standing up - sometimes when I'm not expecting it - and scare the crap out of me!

He especially likes to ride on my shoulder when I walk past the fan pulls...he's always eyeballing those things from the ground and can't wait to get his paws on them!

I have 2 shoulder kitties. Carly will cuddle against my neck while she rests on my shoulder. Lucy will always twist herself to the shoulder when we pick her up. Some days she has a problem deciding which shoulder, moving back and forth, finally settling on the left shoulder.

In fact, I don't post as much as I read because I usually am holding one of these 2 on my shoulder. Typing one-handed makes for very short posts.

Can someone explain how they actually ride? I'd like to teach my kitty how to do this but don't know what the positioning for it actually is. Thanks!

Well I have one kitty Spot who is not exactly a shoulder kitty but almost... He always wants to be behind my head. At night he likes to lay on my pillow behind my head and during the day if I sit down on the couch he will jump up and lay on the back of the couch behind my shoulders.
His brother Blaze likes to climb on shoulders and walk around but he won't do that on my shoulders, I think they're not big enough for his tastes.
He does it to my brother when he comes here.

Jamie is definitely a shoulder kitty - all 15.5 lbs. of him! As a kitten, he used to like to sit or lie on my head, but he's gotten too heavy for that, so shoulders have to do.

Both Harvey and Luke are shoulder kitties. Harvey sleeps around my neck/shoulder area at night and both go straight for my shoulders when I pick them up. Harvey usually settles a little lower where I'm caring him like you would a baby on your hip, but Luke flops himself all the way over my shoulder.

At the clinic where I work, one of the vet's cats (her tiny little oriental Siamese) will literally scale you to get on your shoulder. Then she's happy as can be to "ride" around. She'll scream and scream and scream for "shoulder time."

Me too! latley, I've been trying to wear heavy sweat shirts when she wants to get up!

Can someone explain how they actually ride? I'd like to teach my kitty how to do this but don't know what the positioning for it actually is. Thanks!

Autumn started when she was a kitten, she will kind of wind around the back of my neck, and death grip with the claws! As for teaching I don't really know, maybe try offering treats when you are sitting, than slowly work your way up to standing? She likes to ride like a baby too..flopping over one shoulder..that might be a less scary (for your cat) way to start.

Moose is a start on the shoulders and jump up to the head kind of cat. What's really bad is when, out of nowhere, he comes flying at me like he's been shot out of a cannon!

Trapped in the catroom! ;o)
Gigi is our shoulder kitty. If you pick her up to carry her around she likes to either climb up and lay across the back of your shoulders or flop across your one shoulder like a baby. She's so adorable when she does it cuz she's a motor boat and gets super snuggly and lovey.

Hoshi and Neko dont even like being picked up very much. Nero lets me pop him up on my shoulder or hold him like a baby sometimes.

My family cat in NC, Chassis, lets my brother throw her over his shoulder and she just hangs there.

My girl Crumbs is a a shoulder and lap cat. She loves to be carried over your shoulder like a baby. When I'm sitting down, she will either curl up in my lap or drape herself across an arm or shoulder.

Molly used to ride on my shoulder all the time. She doesn't as much anymore, though.

I love it.

Teya and Siana are my shoulder kitties. Primarily when I'm lying down, but they'll get up on them if I'm sitting.

Here's me attempting to take a pic of us in the mirror, her over my shoulder.....
