Maybe u need to call the vet back and tell them there is now blood present....waiting all day isn't really a good idea...he sounds like he could be blocked already....

Beeba had blood also. I feel bad he has to wait all day. Is there an option for another vet in this situation? Maybe someone could see him earlier. Just a thought. Poor guy, he does not understand why he feels so crummy.

yeah he got 2 injections erm antibiotics and anti inflams

i dont know why they didnt get a sample there and then, his bladder was empty as he had actually been going tiny amounts all day

im not sure if she thinks theres crystals are not but these things they gave her are little white balls which are reusable if ever needed again

Wow, AJ. Just read this entire post! Good for you!!!

You did the absolute right thing! Very observant of you.

I have a household full of male fosters and I am vigilant about checking on them and making sure there are lots of examples of peeing going on. And I listen and watch when I can when one of them is in the box.

They have water dishes AND a fountain and are fed mostly wet food. I know about the fish and phosphorus and magnesium - which generates ... struvite crystals, I think But there are other kinds.

My boys do get fish. I have one fella who now will ONLY eat fishy wet. So, do I give him the fishy wet or just let him eat dry? I think that choice is pretty simple. He gets whatever kind of wet he will eat. Sometimes he will eat the poultry types, but only likes the junky ones!

well after having two problematic (slightly) not that i would ever trade them for all the money in the world or the world itself i worry over the slightest thing, like im concerned that the vet doesnt want another sample till this time next week but theres no telling my mam the vets word is gospel but i prefer my vet that i use for my cats (we take flash to see one vet and sooty to another even though its the same practice each bonded with their vet in their own little way) but Smooch's vet is in a different place all together and im sceptical, but as i say hes a 100% better today but i owe a lot of my obsevation with all 3 cats on this site to be totally honest i read alot more than i post so i sort of knew something was up as i was posting

Oh good to hear Smooch is doing better.
What a relief. Huh?

One thing I do is
after every time Beeba goes in the box, I totally smooth the litter out. All even. That way, I will know if he has been in the box by the footprints. If there are footprints, and no urine, then I know there is a problem.

Just one more little tip to catch things in the very beginning. Thats key.

Another update

Smoochs results have come back from the lab and the vet has said that there is signs of crystals now but i got a couple lil red flags that have popped up though - they wont tell us what type they are, they are ordering food in but havent told us what type of food it is other than he needs to have it for three months and have to keep taking samples in so im just a little concerned. I thought she (the vet) would of told my mam to take his dry food away keep him on wet for today and then to start on this new food tomorrow once they get it in, and hasnt said anything about trying to increase his water intake.

So once my mam gets this food for him we have agreed well ive told her im going to speak to my vets about it all and maybe get him checked over at my vets also as something just isnt quite ringing right with smooch's vet. I've also approached the subject of water fountains and shes on her computer googling them

Hi aj, I am just catching up here. Too bad he has those horrible crystals again. I don't know why there is such a proliferation of them on here lately.

Have you asked the vet what type the crystals are? I find certain vets are not very forthcoming with info (just like some people doctors). You really have to press them for the information. It is "your" information, you are paying for it. How does he expect you to treat your animal without the knowledge of what is wrong? Vets make me mad sometimes.

From what I have learned, it is a battle to get rid of these things. But the good thing is it can be done. Just have to stay on our toes and watch that litter box. Beeba is coming to the end of his meds. That scares me...will they come back when he is off them? That is the million dollar question.

Keep us posted on Smooch . Any water fountain should be good. Drinkwell is one I have and also the Petco one (its dark blue) is cheaper and is just as good. In fact, it is quieter than the more expensive Drinkwell. Just be diligent in cleaning once per week.
