Does anybody feed the dry? I'm a little leery of Nutro products because they get alot of recalls.

So is it safe to feed otherwise? Or should I stay away from it all together?

Nearly every food on the market has had at least one recall , even some of the raw food s have ... So IMHO that is not a reason to stay away ... Are there better foods . YES ... Are there worse foods . YES ....

FYI I get emails of recalls for humans on ave 4 a day

I'm not much of a fan of dry diets for cats. Nutro has a TON of carbohydrates. I like to stick to canned food.

the old formula did this one has far less and is almost = to many low no grain foods and about 35% of the canned foods .. not sure how they did it with adding a new grain

truthfully it was in the lower end of normal on carbs with the old formula ave 25%

Thanks, I may take a look at, since choices are slim here.

Personally, I wouldn't touch Nutro with a 10 foot pole. Sure, one recall really isn't much but recalls seemingly every few months is pathetic.

agreed but if you do a little homework you will see all the OP s choices that "are" IMHO choices have had at least 1 recall a yr in the past few yrs ...

chicken soup is made by diamond which had a huge recall and a few minor in the last few yrs

natural balance had four different recalls during the 2007 recall yet none were from menu ... they have had silent recalls recently also

Dilly with what you have to work with
I would rotate the above mentioned foods in case something does happen

I used to feed Nutro and my cat liked it. Then I switched her to something else, but decided to try Nutro again. Either they had changed their formula or her system became sensitive to something in it and it gave her gas and made her throw up, so I had to stop feeding it.

Nutro is bad news. When Mars bought them out the quality went downhill fast.

My senior kitty had done very well on the Nutro Natural Choice Senior, and then suddenly stopped eating it, at first I didn't realize, and it could have become a very serious problem, as she began to lose weight.

I brought the bag back and got another, again she wouldn't eat it. Being dense for some reason I again brought the bag back, and tried a different formula and she would not even go near it. Not only that, the other non finicky cats who will eat anything would not go near it. They would walk a wide berth around it.

I contacted Nutro about this. I didn't hear back, so contacted them again. I received the reply that there was nothing wrong with their food and if my cats won't eat it they must be sick, so I should take them to the vet.

I called the phone number. I was put on hold and disconnected so many times I gave up.

There are so many other choices, I would advise everyone to stay away from Nutro.

I fed Nutro canned and dry a year before the recalls. At the time, we got a rescue cat , Captain. He became ill one evening after eating Nurto wet food. I remember Shasha would not touch the wet food that night and I thought it was VERY strange. Anyway, we had taken Captain to the vet because he was so sick and would not eat. His temp was 105 and elevated liver enzymes. We were surprised because he was fine before he ate Nutro. He was really sick and was hospitalized for 3 days. The vet gave him fluids and his temp went down and started eating after 4 days. We almost lost Captain. He did recover and 2 weeks later his liver enzymes were normal. The vet thinks it was something he ate. Without thinking, a couple of months later I fed a can of Nutro I had left over in my cupboard and Captain became ill again! Shasha wouldn't touch the food again. I sent the 2 remaining cans to Nutro for testing and they tested the food and said there is nothing wrong and Captain must've eaten toxic chemicals. Long story short, Captain recovered and I feed my cats Wellness canned and Natures Variety dry. I don't trust Nutro and wasn't surprised they were part of the recall.

And it seems like I keep hearing about them having recalls still.

I have been feeding our 7 cats Nutro for 3 years and two years before that on 3 cats. All have clean blood work and are healthy. You take a chance with any food with recalls IMHO. My cats like it and it's better than other choices I could be buying. It's in the middle of what I can afford.

Yes. We switched her gradually and at first she would not eat the Nutro morsels mixed in, but then she started eating them more and more. The more the mix became Nutro, the more she would have problems til we took her back to the vet and he did an x-ray and showed us the gas in her tummy. I felt so bad because she'd loved it when we'd fed her Nutro previously and had no problems with it.

My guess is you tried it again after wheat was added
many cats cant handle that ingredient
