I have a almost 3 yr old cat, (was ferel). He is pretty cool most of the time, will cuddle and give lovin, BUT if u even try to pick him up forget it!!
He goes into complete panic mood and we won't see him for days. Here is the problem, He has been throwing up for 2 days and i want to get him to the vet. His throwup is just water. But I know he is getting dehydrated. I have not seen him eat. I had him one time and almost got him into the carrier but he is so big(14 lbs) and strong and plowed right through the door, broke it right off. First what can i do for the throwing up? is there any grandma rememdy for kitties? Its gonna be either until I can catch him again or he is to weak to fight that I will get him in the carrier to the vet. Please help he is such a good cat if u do not try to pick him up!!

I had an 18 pound former feral that did the same to me. If yours is like mine, he will sense when you want to put him in a carrier and fight the entire way. The first thing you need to do is take a deep breath and relax yourself.

Call your vet and explain your situation. Ask if you can have an open appointment time so that when you do catch him, you can bring him right in. Find out if there are any bad times during the day where they can't do this for you.

Close the doors to the rooms in your home where he can hide under a bed or someplace where you can't reach him. Leave the door to 1 room open with the carrier in that room. Open the door to the carrier and have the opening face your ceiling so that you can drop him in. If he is like my Tigger, he knows what you are about to do and will run from you. Herd him into that room and close the door behind you.

You may need to corner him, but place your hand over his scruff and hold firmly. This even made Tigger go limp to some degree. Pick him up with your other arm and drop him into the carrier, keeping your hand on his scruff the entire time (do NOT pick him up by the scruff, just restrain him there). As he goes into the carrier, his arms and legs may be stretched out to prevent him from going in. Be firm with him and put him in. Then close and latch the door and gently return the carrier to a normal position. If he is busting through the latched door on your carrier, you need a new carrier, as even Tigger couldn't break the door on mine. If you don't have one, ask to borrow one from your vet.

If he is neither eating or drinking, there is really nothing you can do but to get him to a vet right now. After a few days of not eating, his life is in jeopardy and you really need to get him in today.

Deep breath. You can do it!!

for support.

He was an angel at the vet...i had them secure all the doors.made me into a little liar! He said it was most likely a virus, gave him two shots and put him on Perscription diet ID..if he is not better by tomorrow i have to bring him back..blood tests then. So we will see. Thanks Mo, that was alot easier to get into a carrier, I have several, as many cats as I have!!

*whew* Good to know that you got him up there today!!

My Tigger had me bamboozled for years until I thought up this trick one day. And I would warn the vet that he was a wild child and he was usually so scared up there that he just froze. The tough guys always fool you!

for a speedy recovery!!

There are coupons in the Entertainment coupon book that every large city has. The Dallas edition has a free medical examination by a qualified vet for your pet THAT CAN ONLY BE DONE IN YOUR HOME. You can also receive free innoculations in your home. You can buy these books for $15 so we bought two and got free in home exams and shots for our kitties. Now we eat out every night for half price...

So sorry he's still feeling bad! Could he have gotten into something, ie plastic, string, something that could block him? Hopefully the bloodwork will give them some clues and it's just a matter of time and the right medications. Lots of for Tyler!

I'm really sorry to hear this, but I'm so glad you figured out how to get him there.

As to the vomiting, the vet can give him an anti-emetic. We've had a cat that had to go that route. In fact, he also received a med to stimulate his appetite as well. The key is getting him - and keeping him hydrated. Talk to the vet about an anti-emetic and an appetite stimulant if necessary.

well he is home..but very weak..so far, bloodwork shows high levels of glucose and some other levels very high and very low. waiting on one more test. He is leaning towards diabetes. He is still not eating..drinking little and will lay in my arms just wagging his tail. I know tht means he is not happy..but he is purring. He told me to give him tons of nutrical....IDK i don't feel any better, he is still miserable

I hope Tyler gets better and they figure this out. Does he like tuna at all? Most cats go nuts over the stuff, just get the stuff canned in water.

Tyler is not in good shape.. I came home from work this morning and he was on his side .just not feeling good.. so i rushed him to the animal hopital my vet suggests. This was at 9 am they were soooo crowded..lots of life/death emergencies. I guess Ttlr is sick but did not fall into that category yet. They had him stable. So after xrays they concludid he has an obstrcuction in his intestines. Now we talked emergency surgery..this was at 2pm. but the doc was not coming in until 8 pm to do it. Was this "an emergency"??? So I thought well if Tyler held on all day and his vet opens at 8.. I can jut leave him there over night at (620.00). Let them monitor him and keep him on IV fluids. His heart, lung etc..were all good. I can take him to his vet in the morning and he can schedule the surgery. They qouted me a price for it at $4500.00. I love my animal but i felt like i was taken advantage of because of my situation,, Does that sound outrageous?? I don't know, i know its gonna be expensive but thats a little steep. So as of 9 tonight he is the same but resting on IV fluids and his vet will see him 8 am
Thanks for the good vibes!!! Keep sending please!!

I picked Tyler up from the emergency hospital this morning and took him to his vet. They did surgery right away and he had thread wrapped all around his insides. I do not understand how he got a hold of thread. But after a 3 hour surgery, is is in recovery and we got to go see him. He seems to be doing good. I can possibly pick him up tomorrow sometime. Well see but I know that he is going to have to be in a cage for a week or so. He has a large incision. thankyou for the good vibes and keep them commin!!
