I posted a while back about my new kitten testing positive for FIV. Today she is being neutered and retested. I am so nervous! In a way I almost did not want to test her again because we are keeping her no matter what. It has been a learning experience and in many ways it has made us love this kitty even more knowing she could have been put to sleep if animal control found her. So I guess i am just hoping for some good kitty vibes that she will do well with her surgery and test! Thanks! Jenn

I'm sorry just realized I said neutered, she is being spayed. If she was being neutered FIV would be the least of her problems!

All paws crossed for her! What's her name? I guess you've done enough research now to know how to keep her safe as possible from infection if she is positive, but we'll hope that the last test was a false positive, possibly immunity from her mama if a kitten.

Keep us posted!

Her name is Mindy. My husband rescued her from a storm drain in August. I am lucky that my vet has been great providing great information. He also has a mix of FIV+ and FIV- cats of his own. We also have a five year old cat named Max and we also have another kitten that maybe Mindy's brother named Monty. He is the one being neutered today.

Great news!!! Just got off the phone with the vet and Mindy's FIV test was negative! This has been such an educational experience for me and I hope that more people can learn that there can be false positives and even more important even if Mindy tested positive it is not a death sentance. I so appreciate the help from this site and the good vibes! Thanks! Jenn

Wow, that's fantastic, and holds a great deal of hope out to other people whose kitties tested positive!

Thanks so much! I hope this story helps others! It is so upsetting to me to think my kitty could have been put to sleep even if she was positive she can live a long healthy life. I will keep checking the site and hope to help others who are in the same situation.
