Outside Kittens Adopted - Neutered Tomorrow - Leukemia Test?

I adopted 2 15 week old kittens last week. They were outdoor kittens.
We have an appointment to get them neutered tomorrow and when filling out the paperwork tonight I saw they also do vaccines and leukemia testing.
Are these necessary? I know we need to get the rabies vaccine by law, but I'm not sure I want/need the others. They will be inside cats (as is my other cat).
Also, do we need the leukemia test done? I'm a little worried because they were outside kittens.

I know it's short notice, since they're going in tomorrow, but I would appreciate any advice you can give.

I would not get the shots the same day that they are fixed.
That is alot of stress for them.
They do not need every shot.
You can ask for the merial purvax rabies vaccine.
That is what my Cleo got today.
I would do a leukemia test but not the shotit illed my Lucy.

As a disclaimer, some regions / states have vaccination laws, please check into these before not getting some vaccines

The Leukemia test, depending on their systems, could give you a false positive unless you have a full DNA test done - kittens often have antibodies for many of the major diseases passed onto them in their mothers milk which can remain in their system for approx 6 months

I too would not get vaccines done the same day as a spay / neuter

on a side note, all vaccines including rabies have a risk of death and illnesses (especially vaccine associated sarcomas) However, out shelter uses FVRCCP + Rabies and we have not had a single case of VAS in the three years I have been involved. They can however take 10 years to show and so can not always be attributed to a shot. There is also thinking that it may be dose related

My vet doesn't like to spay or neuter until kitten shots are done. You may want to call and ask about that.

Yes, the vet may insist on vaccines - some will not neuter unvaccinated animals

This is not quite accurate. The PureVax vaccines (rabies and FeLV vaccine are available as PureVax) do not cause vaccine site sarcomas. They are made without the adjuvant, which is what is thought to cause the vaccine site sarcoma.

Also some vets are now doing the nasal spray vaccine, which I think, but am not positive, is available for the "distemper" (aka RCCP, or FVCRP) vaccines, only.

They have a reduced risk but there is no study to prove they dont cause them because they are so new, any foreign body into an animal can cause issues - having had a cat myself develop lumps at the site of a vaccine, like mews2much I am cautious of all vaccines.

My point was that all vaccines can cause illnesses not just VAS not just the Leukemia part - rabies has a higher VAS rate than FVRCP, possibly because rabies is required by law and so more people do the rabies shot and use the 3 year including the adjuvant.
