good food is so hard to find!

Originally, I tried feeding my 2 cats a grain free diet, they completely ignore wet food (I tried all kinds: wellness, Ivo, etc) but one of them had serious BM issues, (had trouble going, stunk up the house, etc). so I switched to Wellness for indoor cats (dry). They did fine on that for a while... but then the same one with the BM issues started expressing her anal gland at the most in-opportune times... and places (I know... ew!). Her "expressions" became more frequent, so I took her to the vet. My vet checked her over and said there was nothing wrong with her and suggested a diet higher in fiber AND low-calorie b/c my "squirty" cat was also a bit overweight. She suggested Royal Canin calorie control dry food. My cats LOVE it, but I am concerned about the ingredients. I am looking for some opinions as well as maybe some more natural/wholesome alternatives.

Have you had the stool checked by the vet just incase it is parasites or a baterial overgrowth?

I would start there ..

other thought s to discuss with the Vet ... trying some of the "lower quality wets" or ones with NON pate textures.. you mention some of the "highest" end wets

Probiotics and digestive enzymes is another thing to discuss

plain pumpkin can also help

I'm with Sharky. I think checking out some of those options would probably be better (healthier in the long run) than feeding your cats kibble.

I forgot to mention in my original post that ever since my cats have been eating the Royal Canin, Buttercup has not had her "anal squirts" at all. Not once (they've been on this food since the summer). Is this a sign that the higher fiber food is working?

Also, what are some other brands of wet (and dry) foods that I should try?

It would signal you need a food with a little grain/ or you will likely need to add pumpkin in a wet ...

What store s and brands do you have access too?

I don't purchase commercial products (since Ollie's death in the 2007 pet food poisoning, I prefer to handle quality control myself), so I can't offer you suggestions EXCEPT to say - buy wet and leave the kibble on the shelf. Truly, your cats will thank you, as will your pocketbook in reduced vet visits.

If you have found a diet that they are healthy and regular with, I would stick to this.

gud foods for cats are really very difficult to find. if u find one shop plz share it with me.
