I live in a fairly rural area so the food choices are pretty slim. Natural Balance, Chicken Soup are the best options. Of course I can get Iams, SD, and Purina One all over the place. Shipping is an arm, and a leg to order from PFD. I like to rotate food every 3 months, so what do you all suggest? I'm feeding NB right now, and I fed CS before that. I used to just feed Iams for years, then I started researching feline nutrition and started looking for a better food. How bad would it be to roate the "lower quality" food in to the rotation?

You feed the best food you can Afford , your cats will eat and the cats DO well on...

IMHO NB reg is a bit better than CS ... NB s allergy formulas are better as many are 'grain free"... Now grain free dry in my house is mixed with a grain containing to avoid UTI issues...

what foods does the local feed store carry?>

I just called the feed store and they only carry Pro Plan.
We have a Murdoch's, which is a farm supply store. The carry SD, NB, CS Nutro, Iams, Pro Plan, Whiskas, and Purina One.

Of those

NB - good solid food ... three grain in regular formula some are grain free

CS- good food decent price - IMHO too many grains

Nutro - good food - recent changes made one grain formulas a two grain formula

SD- ONLY in a RX form would I use it

Iams - many grocery store brand s IMHO are =

Pro Plan - some formulas are decent but most see Iams

Wiskas - NO I would not feed

Purina one - see pro plan

I now Murdocks well used to live in Nebraska

Stick with NB and Chicken Soup - the rest are not the great of a choice. You don't want to switch dry foods often. I'd also look into adding canned foods too. All dry can lead to more UTI's in some cats.

In the snow!!!!
If you have a WalMart nearby, you might look there. The Walmart here carries Newman's Own which IMO is pretty good stuff.

I just feed Sprinkles common brands of canned and she does better on that then a top notch dry. more protein and less carbs.

I would like to know what your calling less carbs ... most grocery store foods have HIGH levels of grains and thus carbs

I do have a walmart, but I'm feeding 7 adults and several kittens, Newmans doesn't make big enough bags for the money.
