Long story short: we're having a problem with our drains (it's being fixed) but I hadn't done dishes for a few days because of not being able to drain the sink. Hubby worked up something temporary so I could clean laundry/shower/do dishes, etc. (yippie!). So there was a sink full of dry dishes that was there for maybe 2 days.

I reached under all the dishes, popped the plug in & filled 'er up. I got down to the last pan & some cutlery. I took out the pan and started scrubbing, then realized there was something really icky & light brown looking floating up to the top of the full sink. I thought it was a piece of bread...

(anyone want to guess).

REALLY glad I went for it with an empty yogurt container instead of my hand...

Yeah, DEAD FIELD MOUSE!!!!!
(the BIG suckers!!)

I SCREAMED!!! Dropped my dishes and bolted from the sink. All to the tremendous entertainment of my toddler... It's not that I mind mice so much, but I don't really like them when they are dead & I especially don't like them when they are in my SINK full of dishes that I just had my hands in
!!!!!!!

SO grossed out!!!!

Thankfully it was mostly in one piece, I just chucked it outside. I'm really not sure if it was wounded then tried to hide in there, or if Miss Kitty actually dropped it into the sink for some reason...

But it was definitely her, I caught the guilty look for the record:

WHO ME!?

She also found one under the kitchen sink today, caught & bit it but then lost it under a chair in the living room because she was playing with it :S. Of course my son, our two dogs, peaches & oscar & my friends 4 year old daughter all had to be in the living room at the same time. Obviously that was part of the reason she lost the thing as the dogs went diving forward, the kids when running back & the cats just got in the way!!!!

I'm hoping she find her little friend tonight before he crawls somewhere & dies!!

We don't really have mice (because of M.K.), but it's that time of year it's getting cold & they are coming into the house for the winter. Not for long!!

For a second, I thought you were gonna say you found poop at the bottom of your sink. xD I'm not sure which is better. A mouse? or poop? o_O

that's the problem with the "drains aren't working" + "icky & light brown thing floating" part of the story
.

But then it wouldn't be on the cat forum!!
(Unless it was cat poo I guess...)

you guys reminded me of the scene in Caddyshack where they had to clear out the pool....
BTW, I don't think that's a guilty look on Miss Kitty's pretty face! She looks a little miffed that you threw out her toy.

Absolutely hysterical. I'm not afraid of rodents AND I'm ex-military, but, yeah, I'd have screamed loud enough to bring the neighbors running if that had happened to me.

And if I had not had the foresight you showed and picked it up by hand, I'd probably still be scraping mouse smears off the wall across the room.

Good Job Miss Kitty!!!! Sorry you were grossed out though... We humans work in funny ways I guess when it comes to that, In her eyes at least - to her benefit.......... I rather find a dead mouse tan a live one any time.... granted, not in the sink
.

By the way - BEAUTIFUL, GORGEOUS, postcard worth pictures you have there!!

Miss Kitty looks extremely proud of herself, and she should be too, for being such an excellent mouser! She's a very pretty cat

Miss Kitty has actually been behaving very strangely lately. This happened when I was pregannt with our first too & she started sleeping on my belly everytime I sat down.

Hubby was just telling me he saw her leave a dead mouse outside our gate for Tasha (see the wild indoor cat thread under caring for strays & ferals - he also saw Tasha eat it). MK has always just eaten her catches right away, maybe it's my hormones and she was trying to give me this mouse so left it somewhere I would find it?

No thanks kitty!!

Aw, Miss Kitty is innocent! And so pretty. I actually had a similar thing happen to me. My boys don't sleep with me (I have terrible allergies), so they are always outside my door waiting when I get up. One morning, I saw something brown on the ground. I thought it was one of their fake mice, so I leaned over to pick it up (so I could throw it for them). It was warm in my hand, so I immediately thought, "Poop?" Nope. Dead mouse. I praised the boys for being such mighty hunters before I tossed Mr. Mousey outside, poor thing.
