As far as I know breast cancer doesn't cause a sudden onset of tenderness.

Mine always feel tender right before I start my period so just pray that you are having an off week. ^^ Sometimes being stressed out can cause your body to go out of psynch with itself so you could very well be starting early.

But it's always best to check with your doctor, and even if your pregnancy test results come back negitive, take another one in a week just to be safe.
The earlier you are in pregnancy, the less accurate the tests are. Still talk to your doctor about it, even if it goes away tomorrow.

And yes, some "general" dollar stores sell pregnancy tests for a couple bucks, but even at the pharmacy the cheapest ones are between 5-10$ for 2 tests.

I've seen them at the dollar tree here for $1 but my friends and I have always joked about how much we would trust one from the dollar tree... dunno.
I'm really hoping that its just hormones and it will go away and my period will start...

When I was PG I had to go ALOT and when I went it wasn't much. Almost like when you have a bladder infection.

Have you been lifting or carrying heavy stuff?

Better safe than sorry right?

Have you ever watched the show "I didn't know I was Pregnant"?

I wouldn't use a pregnancy test from the dollar store either, so if you have to wait a couple days it's not going to hurt. If you are pregnant, taking a pregnancy test isn't really going to solve the problem.

Just take a deep breath and tell yourself that you'll deal with whatever it is, and chillax on the couch with a good movie. ^_^

Inflammatory breast cancer can. Please everyone look this stuff up! IBC has recently gotten a bit more publicity the last few years because it is so aggressive.

Since you said that, I wouldn't worry about pregnancy yet!! Symptoms like swollen tender breasts are supposed to start 1-2 weeks after you miss your period...

It could be a hormonal imbalance or early period...Mine came 10 days early this month too

I'm glad that "as far as I know" covered my butt there.

I learn something new every day. But it looks like only 1-6% of women diagnosed with breast cancer have this type. It doesn't sound very common.

There's no reason to put fear into somebody that is probably just having everyday aches and pains.

This was my first thought after pregnancy. My mother had to cut out all caffeine (even chocolate!!) on doctor's orders. Her breasts were really hurting (having a cat that kneads her armpit all night and taking care of an 18 month old didn't help!).

I hope it's gone now for you. My breasts hurt sometimes but I always attributed it to their weight. Thank the Lord, I've not had issues with the pregnancy (except itching....no fun either). Oh and with that; when DH and I were trying; the best way for me to get my period to come was to take a pregnancy test!
I'd be late; take a test and BAM! Within an hour I'd have my period.

Sorry if already answered, but how far away are you from your period? I think if you're at the point where your pregnant & your breasts are tender you'd already be late.

Personally I've found out my morning sickness starts at about 4 1/2 week
. My breasts aren't a problem until 6 months or so when they start getting HUGE. Like seriously this is rediculous, I can barely type they are so in my way
. WT* do people get breast implants?? Seriously!!???

My friend who has been trying to get pregnant for almost 3 years now (there are problems) did tell me her doctor informed her that the dollar store tests are just fine. You probably shouldn't believe them 100%, but you shouldn't believe any test that much. Cheapo just off-name drug stores tests are usually only about $5 or so, but I know what it's like when you litterally have no money to spend on something you really may not need.

Totally agree with MnN though!!!
If you get the test you'll get your period right away!!

Hon, even though you may not feel stressed because Gary's gone for a month, you probably are subconsiously, and that can throw your body complete out of whack. Panicking isn't helping either. Take a deep breath and try to forget about it over the weekend. I've had my period be late because of stress (this month in fact...and yeah, I was starting to get a little..umm...NERVOUS!), but it showed up. I've also had it come early because of strange things going on in my life and in my mind and thought the usual symptoms were weird. A few months ago I left work thinking I had an intestinal virus when it just turned out I had the cramps. Gotta love Mother Nature.

Give it until Monday, and try not to think about it. If your breasts are still as sore on Monday go and get a free test at the health dept if you can to put your mind at ease. I'm putting my money on your period is just coming a week early. I mean, it's due at the end of the month and today is the 20th...we're getting close.

Not to frighten you, but as others have mentioned, it is good to be aware that breast cancer can manifest itself in different ways with different symptoms depending on the woman. Women of any age (And even men) can develop it, so it's always good to pay attention to any sort of body pains. Any kind of breast pain should be checked out by a doctor (and if it persists and mammogram/ultrasound would be a good way to go to be on the safe side.)

I'm sure it's probably just hormonal fluctuations, but it's always better to err on the side of caution and have a good doctor check you out.
If the pain persists and it doesn't follow symptoms of a period or a confirmed pregnancy, I would get an appointment set up for an exam. It will put your mind at ease to know what's going on with your body. Good luck hon!

I have 3 children and I have always used tests from the pound shop (dollar store to you) and have found them very reliable, they have to be up to a certain standard for them to be able to sell them. I would get one if you can just to put your mind at rest and then still go to the docs on monday just to double check. It could just be hormonal due to your period being due soon. good luck. xx

Something I did not see mentioned here:

Do you work out, or dance? A few years ago I was having terrible breast tenderness and my doc was at wits end to figure out why.

Well...before I joined a gym I used to work out at home, and part of my work out was this vigorous dancing jumping moves I used to do to certain songs. There came a two week period when I was sick with pneumonia and I did not do this work out at all, and my breasts stopped hurting.

When I felt better I went back to my home work out, jumping and all, and again, my breasts began to hurt.

So..I joined a women's gym instead and stopped the jumping. no more breast pain.

Just thought I'd offer another possibility.

Several ladies have mentioned fluctuating hormones, figured I'd add my thoughts.
I went thru peri-menopause at a relatively young age (started at 34 ). There were days that my breasts were so tender that it hurt if I accidentlly brushed against something. Even the fabric of my bra rubbing against them hurt. I'd always had breast tenderness leading up to my periods, but this was so much worse.
And it was all a result of those stinking hormones.
If it were me I'd take a few Tylenol and apply some moist heat to my chest.
Since it sounds as if a pregnancy is the last thing you want right now I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I agree that if it continues, go see a doctor!

I want to add one thing I haven't seen on here yet... How long have you been off BC? It took my body a few cycles to regulate after I got off... So the... 4th or so period I had after that my hormones went INSANE and boobs felt like they were going to explode!!

Except I was trying to get pregnant, and wasn't; you can imagine what kind of games that played with my mind.

Hope you feel better!

The pregnancy test from the dollar store are the same as the name brand ones (it's like anything else that's name brand vs store, same thing cheaper price). It could be PMS. I had a huge scare where I had tender breasts (which happens occasioanlly before AF shows up) but they were sore for about 3 wks straight with no show of AF (which is basically non exsistant since I'm on Mirena) the day I finally broke and was going to test it finally showed up. I'd just wait till the time you're supposed to get it and if it doesn't show get a test (even a dollar store one). Good luck.

I'm not late. And hopefully I wont be. I should be starting next week.
I've been off BC for around 6 months. Its been crappy too! I was on Seasonique so I only had a period every 3 months! It was so nice! But I got super spoiled! I've been extremely regular since then though!
I know one is hurting worse today because a stupid dog jumped on me at work when I wasnt watching. Talk about being in pain! Dumb dog...
I dont work out much at home. Every now and then some pilates or yoga. But I've been a lazy bum recently... I need to get over that though!

I will probably try to go to the doctor on Monday or planned parenthood on tuesday when I get to knoxville and getting a test and find out about getting assistance with BC until I can get a IUD put in. Unfortunately Knox is the closest planned parenthood. But I get to pick Gary up from the airport then so yay! I think people around here would freak out if they tried to open one closer...

thanks again guys!

I don't know about anyone else but for my boobs to get sore a week before a period is normal....I get PMS that early and it lasts for an entire week..
And then my period is another week so 50% of my life I'm bothered by my monthly cycle

Have you been drinking and eating more caffeine? Many foods, such as nuts, chocolate, etc. can do this, esp. if you have fibrocystic breast disease. That's when your breasts develop non-canerous cysts, and caffeine will aggravate the swelling and soreness.
