We have a new cat, well, we have had her for a year now. Raised her from a kitten.
We fed her kitten food for a year (Vet's suggestion) and now have her on indoor formula.
It is supposed to reduced fur balls, but we fed it to our last cat (who lived to be 18) and it did not seem to help her.
any suggestions?
Delilha has already started to cough up fur balls.

most "indoor" formulas are lower fat , higher fiber than their adult version counterparts... many indoor s also have ingrediants to aid in wt control...

Is there a weight issue ? If now try an adult hairball control vs indoor IMHO ...

What brand are you feeding? I can do a quick comparison

purina brand, she does not have a bad problem, and she is not overweight.
she just started having fur balls about a month ago, she is 13 months old now

right indoor can be adult..

what i mean by adult is just adult no indoor
ie
reg adult 34 protein 19 % fat
same brand indoor adult 34 protein 13% fat

cats are designed to digest fat and protein not carbs

What about regular brushing or maybe giving her a dab of canned, cooked pumpkin to eat every day. The pumpkin really helped one of my foster boys whose gut was just FULL of fur when he came in.

Does anyone know how Fiber Sure would work in place of pumpkin? It is a white powder fiber supplement that can be added to food and is odorless and tasteless. It seems like it might be better than pumpkin for fussy eaters.

Cats are not supposed to have a lot of fiber. It creates bulk, which makes their stools large and difficult to pass. You will see this with any "hairball formula" commercial cat food.

The best way to control hairballs, in my opinion, is daily grooming with a good comb, plenty of exercise, plenty of water, and the occasional hairball remedy when needed.

Mazy won't allow me to groom her so she gets hairball remedy on a regular schedule. Every four days in winter, more often during shedding season. Tolly and Jennie get the hairball remedy only once every 6 or 7 days in winter.

(Canned food is better than kibble, for everything cat
)

that sounds about right...kittens don't seem to have as much trouble with hair balls, they don't groom themselves as much, plus (and this is not proven fact, just my own theory) I think when they start shedding the baby fur is when the problems really start.
