First off, this isn't a debate over declawing.

Does anyone know if Banfield (petsmart vet) still offers declaws? Its for a project for school I would never declaw my cats! Reasons not to buy stock in certain companies (or to buy stock in them) and I chose Petsmart so...

Thanks! I keep finding contradicting info.

I'm sure they still do de-claws. VERY few vets in the U.S. will ever refuse a de-claw when requested. However, Banfield used to offer a health plan for kittens, where you pay a set fee every month, and all vaccines, vet visits, etc. are covered, and then you got a choice between a free spay/neuter and a free de-claw. Which is an extremely BAD idea. I don't know if they still offer the de-claw option on the health plan. I hope not.

ETA: I found this on their website: http://www.banfield.net/optimum-wellness-plans-kittens It doesn't mention de-clawing.

Luna goes there because she has a plan (the adult one). Last time I read the brochure for kittens though (almost got TC one) I believe they still gave that option.

Huh. I'll have to pick up a brochure next time I'm in Petsmart. If they still offer it, it's extremely stupid. You should NEVER give cat owners the option NOT to spay/neuter. Especially if the alternative option is to have the cat's claws cut out....for puppies, they offer hip dysplasia screening instead of spay/neuter. Which is good, because show/breeding quality dogs need to be HD screened, and can't be altered. But there is NO reason for an unaltered cat to be de-clawed, EVER. A de-clawed cat can't be shown. All vets should (at least) refuse to de-claw an unaltered cat.

ETA: Browsing through the site, I find that they will not do ear cropping/tail docking for dogs. Ooooh, if they still offer FREE de-claws, I'm going to be really mad.

ETA (again, LOL): They seem to try very hard to not mention de-clawing on the website. I typed "declaw" into the search function, and the only thing I got was this: http://www.banfield.net/r/cat-spay-declaw . They're being so careful, I suspect there has been some legal action somewhere.

Why not go to or call your local Petsmart and ask? That should get the question answered.

Asking a question that YOU should be able to get an answer to yourself is not appropriate for the forum... On the other hand if your class project needed you to survey people on their feelings on de claws or owning stock that is at time s appropriate for the right section.

I think the OP came on here asking for info because:

so perhaps it might be different for individual Banfields.

If it's research for school you should probably call different PetSmarts yourself. Asking a question here isn't research :-)

You may think they don't, but probably because you've never asked you'd never know.
