My 9 week old kitten was fine all day. He went to lay in his carrier (that is where he likes to sleep) where his blanket is to sleep. When he woke up he came out of the carrier and was limping. He will not put any pressure on his right front leg and he will not extend his leg all the way. He is not crying in pain just limping. Could he have just slept wrong??? Please...any thoughts..my vet is closed

Is he showing any other signs of illness like sneezing, weepy eyes, congestion, lack of eating, etc? If so, I'd say it's something like a virus. If he's not, then he probably hurt it while playing then is a little "stiff" after sleeping.

Stephanietx is right: calicivirus, which is common, can cause muscle pain. But usually there are other, more typical, virus-y symptoms, too.

Does your kitten's meow sound different? Calicivirus can cause throat inflammation and mouth sores, too. When my kitten had it, his voice sounded like a raspy little hinge.

In any case, hang in there until morning!! And please keep us posted on what the vet says.

just got home from the emergency vet with Calvin. They looked him over and he had a 104.5 fever. I could not let them go any further as they wanted to charge me more than an arm and a leg. Not that i dont think he is worth it but I just lost my job and i cant afford $500-600 at the emergency vet. They told me that it could just be a cold. I am going to call his normal vet at 9am. Wish my little Calvin luck.

Any opinions from anyone on what this could be. I am going crazy.

Sounds like Calici. Your kitten is way too young to have had all the kitten shots. Has he had amy shots at all?
