Hi all,
Growing up, my parents fed our kitties dry food only - they're about 14 years old now and doing well. So when we first were fostering our kittens, I had them on dry only. After doing my research, I realized I need to also feed wet food to maintain kidney health.
Batman is about 7 months old and his momma (Patches, stray kitty being socialized in an isolated room) is at least 2 years old. What I've been doing now is having dry food available at all times and then giving them each 1/2 a can of wet food at dinner time. This is new for Batman - he never got wet food until we took in Patches. He LOVES the wet food - crying for it whenever he sees me going to get a spoon.
Is this ratio ok? Or would it be better if I would have wet food AM & PM, with just a small amount of kibble..? I'd prefer if it was ok how I do it now but am open for all feedback and advice!
Also, as far as brands go, I realize that I'm not feeding my kitties the best food and I am going to change that. Batman is on Eukanuba kitten (which I thought was better than Purina, but realize now it's hardly better) and Patches is on generic junk I was feeding her when she was outside... I figure when Batman is ready for adult food, I will transition them both to the same thing.
For wet food, I've been buying cheap junk honestly, but I will look to buy the better quality foods in bulk once I figure out if they have any issues with any types. I may have to mix and match the brands though so it may be a variety of low brands and better ones.
Thanks for any advice!! I have been going through older posts on here, but I do apologize if this is a commonly asked question that I could've found easier by digging more.
