Since you mentioned '94 could it have been Yugoslavia (then) - maybe Serbia (now) since they've not been accepted into the EU yet.

If not, did you travel through there? Is so, and around '94... that's would have been cutting it close!

I guessed Bosnia and Herzegovina already
. I was hoping for a win, but I guess we're both wrong as of now. But, it was a great guess if I do say so myself
.

I've been sitting at the edge of my seat all day to see if someone answered correctly. Well, to be honest, I did go to work at one point so it wasn't like I checked every 30 seconds, but it's definitely been on my mind all day. I can't wait to find out if I was even close! But, regardless, I'm grateful to have seen such beautiful and unique photos.

Hopefully we'll know the answer by tomorrow morning
.

Luxembourg - though I'm not sure I spelled that right. I've lived in Italy and seen lots of Gypsies, but you said it was a little known country....

Yeah, I'm guessing Albania too.
On a side note, it's hard to believe some of these countries are actually a part of Europe considering how backward they are.

I have been holding this contest for about three months now and we have never failed to have a winner. I knew this one was going to be hard though. OK, I am going to have to give more hints that will give the answer away and the first person to see this will probably be the winner.

In my world travels, Romania is definitely the country you will see the most gypsy caravans like this. But I was never able to get pictures because they will never let you anywhere near them. This time I lucked out.

And here is the clue to give the answer away assuming you are anywhere near a map or globe. Right down the road from where I took these pictures is the Romanian border...

CONGRATULATIONS!

Moldova is located on the northeast border of Romania. I mentioned 1994 because Moldova was not an independent country before 1992. Somebody mentioned earlier it is hard to believe these European nations exist but yet Romania is now part of the E.U. and Moldova might be next. Meanwhile the Euro keeps going up so high against the dollar (1.50 yesterday) it makes it almost impossible to travel anywhere in the E.U. any more.

Woohoo!

Moldova currently aspires to join the European Union,[4] and has implemented the first three-year Action Plan within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP).-wiki

I think the person who mentioned that is a bit mislead by the picture- it is a picture of a caravan of gypsies and they probably believed that this is how the mainstream population of people lives, dresses, etc- when that is not the case...
The gypsy population is very underprivileged
And they are about 1-5% of the total population in eastern european countries depending on the country..

Congratulations Crazyforinfo!!
