Angus is my 1.5yr old cornish rex. I've heard and read this breed is very vocal and active, and I've found that to be true. The problem has been about the last 1-2 weeks. He has taken to pacing like a tiger in a cage at the front door, scratching at the door and absolutely yelling at the top of his lungs. Now he did escape about the time this behavior started and my husband recaptured him within 10-15 minutes. We never allow him outside for his safety and I've just never trusted my cats to come home. Also at other times (like when we are trying to sleep) he walks around the house yelling. I don't know what else to call it, it's the most obnoxious piercing meowing I've ever heard.
To answer a few questions, we give him lots of attention, you really can't get away from it with this breed, they demand it, always in our laps or under the covers. We throw his toys for him, and have a paper bag he can crawl in and out of. He has the run of our 1500 sq. ft. home. He was neutered by 6 months old. He seems very happy when he's not doing this obsessive behavior.
Even if it's just wanting to get back outside, is there anything we can do to curb this yelling and pacing? I have no plans to let him roam no matter how much he complains. We've talked about getting him a buddy, but honestly my husband's not a cat person. Husband is extremely sweet to Angus, but talking about getting another cat just makes him roll his eyes. |But we would be open to it if we thought it would make Angus sane again.
