I am fostering a mom + 3 kittens (they are about 10 weeks old). I've had them for about a month. The kittens are socializing with me pretty well, but the mom cat is scared and mean toward us. Another person had been feeding them outdoors when they were feral/strays, so they are somewhat used to humans (women, that is). I've taken in ferals/strays before, and this problem only lasted a couple of weeks--then they were my best buddies after that. I;ve tried the same tactics with Rosalie, to no avail (spending time in the quarantine room, talking normally, ignoring the hisses, etc.). Part of me feels sorry for her, the other part is very annoyed with her. Coudl this be due to her being with the kittens (she still nurses them sometimes)? However, the problem isn't usually happening when she's near the kits--in fact, it's about the only time I can sit on the floor, and chat with her, and she doesn't seem too scared (she even dozes off sometimes).
