I never watched the original series, but I am watching this one, and so far I really like it

Yep, it's a remake of the original series. I remember it because I had to sneak and stay up late to watch it. I would guess that puts the original sometime in the mid-80's. The original was a mini-series over about 4 nights. There may have been a second series and then there was a weekly show for a season or two after that. There was also a series of books and I, being a geek, read all of them of course.

If you missed any of the first episodes, you can catch them on abc.com. I missed the first one and had to watch it that way. The new series isn't an exact remake of the old one. The most notable difference is the location - New York City instead of Los Angeles. The characters are different and I think that the character development is generally better than in the old one. The overall arc is still the same though - aliens have arrived under the guise of peace, but a few people have learned their intentions are not good and set out to form a resistance.

I think it's pretty neat. Hopefully ABC doesn't do with it like FOX did with Firefly and Futurama. I'm so glad to see something on TV that's not a health show or a romantic drama with rick/poor/different people. Or a reality show, good God. I loooooove science fiction and wish that TV would go back to the good stories in shows that used to be aired.

But, my favorite sci-fi that's old and still going strong is Doctor Who. Which, unfortunately I have to try and find episodes online or wait forever for them due to not living in the UK.

V would have to be pretty darn amazing [at least in my personal opinion, haha] to surpass the "spacey-wacey timey-wimey" of Doctor Who.

I don't know... from the old times, and of course being from Brasil I obviously didn't have all the shows you had here... but I LOVED V and Planet of the Apes
(on that genre, I mean, kinda
)
