I am adding a new kitten to my family and he is being weaned to canned food along with his dry Iams/Eukanuba. My existing cat (Zachary) is a very finicky eater and will pretty much ONLY eat his dry Eukanuba food. I tried to introduce canned when he was younger, but he turned his nose up, so I stuck with the dry.

I bought some of the canned food the new kitten is eating, and I was hoping Zachary would like it too, but he wouldn't go near it or even try it.

What is your cat's favorite canned food (flavor and brand) and do you have any suggestions on how I can get Zachary to try it?

Cats can be so stubborn!

We feed Max Cat in the dry and in the canned, Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance, Iams, Max Cat and Nature's Choice. I only feed chicken, lamb, beef or venison - no fish based foods.

They get one meal of dry in the morning, one meal of canned (different brand/flavor) in the evening. We also give either stew beef or chicken wings (both are raw) twice a week.

Maybe you can try to get your older one to eat raw rather then canned with his dry food.

Even though Alpine eats a large variety of wet, the ones she consistently eats faster (or finishes the portion completely) are: Wellness chicken or turkey, Friskies pate in chicken/turkey/beef varieties, Merrick Grammy's Pot Pie and Turducken, and California Natural chicken and rice. There are plenty others that she eats, but those kinds she takes longer to finish a portion or never finishes a portion. For her, a portion is about 1.5 oz.

Wellness, no grain, chicken is my sweetie's favorite canned food.

For their dry food, Isis's can only eat Royal Canin prescription pea and venison but for some unknown reason, she can eat the Wellness canned chicken.

BTW did you guys know Wellness now has the larger cans? I compared the cost/ounces and found the larger can of chicken is cheaper then buying the 2 smaller 6 oz cans. I now buy the large can of chicken and that will give me 3 meals of food between the cats.

My older cat eats Natural Balance Venison and Green Pea, Duck & Green Pea, Salmon & Green Pea and Chicken & Green pea - he needs a food with limited ingredients. I will give him Now! grain-free canned once in a while because he gets tired of foods.

My younger cat eats Nature's Variety Instinct (grain-free) and their Homestyle stews (not grain-free).

try different textures ... a easy and relatively inexpensive way is but a can of many different brands

weurva has a shredded texture

wellness has the chopped in pouches with gravy

tiki cat resembles a seafood dinner

Neko's favorite canned food is Nutro Max! She loves loves loves it! She also enjoys Purina Pro Plan Selects. Only 2 faves so far.
Neko also wouldn't eat wet before... i finger fed her (placing little bits in her mouth so she would realize it tastes pretty good). After a few attempts at this, she would eat from the plate, just a little at first. Now she meows for her wet food

Also adding a little warm water helps, she prefers to lick the food up.

I realized that and bought one for Milo. It gives him about 2-3 days of food, which is the sealed refrigerated shelf life of an open can [that's been properly sealed], conveniently enough. It's cheaper per bulk.

generally this is true... one caution( thou I buy big cans with 5 cats ) is that the flavor is not as good and many cats wont eat more than once or twice.. some companies are Raising the big can price realizing what many are doing..

I haven't really noticed a deterioration in flavor, but I could see how some would do that. I do feed him non-fish formulas [Turkey, Chicken, Beef] and from what I've noticed those don't stink too bad. Sometimes when I've tried stuff with fish in it on Milo, it stinks a little even if I seal it up, leave it in the fridge and use it again later that day.

Also I microwave it for about 10-12 seconds. That tends to make it smell [at least to me] a tad bit better, plus Milo loves it and gobbles up the portion I give him in one feeding, so it's out for less than 15 minutes.

I've got one like this - who only ate the Eukanuba dry and found she transitioned well to the Blue Buffalo Spa Select wet. I found she went right for the fishy flavours.

I warm the larger cans by scooping out what I need in one bowl and adding hot water and mixing it up - then divide it among the 3 cats. I don't like microwaving it.

Mine won't eat it if it's been microwaved. They will eat it if refrigerated (or cold--if I forget to take it out of the pantry) if I mix in a little warm water. I don't usually refrigerate the food though. Nabu is kind of hit and miss with eating refrigerated food.

Nabu will only consistently eat Friskies or Fancy Feast wet foods. Generally the Fish, Chicken, or Chicken & Fish flavors. He also likes Mixed Grill. He likes the gravy flavors and pate. Since keeping weight on him is a priority, that's what they all get for canned. Stimpy has been known to also like Natural Balance (Ultra and Chicken). Lola also likes some Science Diet pate style foods.

I buy 3 kinds: Addiction Venison & Apple, Instinct and Evo. The kitten Mojo seems to prefer the pate consistency of Evo or Instinct. Dusky, which I have been struggling switching to wet, prefers Addiction Venison flavour.

temperpolk, how are you liking the addiction so far? I've tried to get that for years now and have finally succumb to ordering them online directly from the company to try.

also, any noticeable differences between evo and instinct? I've gone over to Evo almost exclusively, since our cat has gone strike on the wellness after eating it for nearly 1.5 yr. I've been wanting to mix things up with the instinct, but it's consistently $0.30-0.50 more expensive than each of evo's counterparts (e.g. duck, beef, venison, etc). Is the price difference worth it?

My cats love the flavor of the chicken formula, and I love the aroma, consistency, and quality control. Top named ingredients are Chicken, Chicken Liver, Chicken Broth, Brown Rice, Egg Product, Whole Ground Flaxseed, Whole Carrots, Whole Sweet Potatoes, Guar Gum, Whole Blueberries, Whole Cranberries, and Kelp. Guaranteed Analysis (dry matter basis): Crude Protein 45%, Crude Fat 32%, Crude Fiber 5%.

A sample "6-pack" case which contains two cans each of three different formulas is also available.

I have bought many different brands and flavour, including Authority, Merrick, Wellness, Holistic Select, California Natural, AvoDerm, Evo.

Panther is not a big wet food fan, his only favourite so far are baby food and Evo Chicken & Turkey Formula.

Cheetah, who loves most of it, but has a sensitive stomach, so I have to watch out what he eats, esp Wellness kitten formula. To my surprise, they both do not show any interest in Holistic Select Turkey and Barley Formula.

They do not like pumpkin puree unless I mix it very well with their wet food.

I really like the grain free canned foods - I like to feed Wellness Grain Free canned Flavours. EVO 95% meat canned flavours. Natural Balance Limited Ingredients canned (once in a while). And Nature's Variety Instinct canned flavours (once in a while).

I do feed raw food as well and it has been miraculous for my cat that had constant diarrhea on vet prescribed foods. It also lets me control what types of meats and ingredients he is eating. I have found that he has an intolerance to chicken, pork and sometimes beef. But he does very well on all the novel proteins.
