My new bed was delivered today. I was so tired that I just threw a comforter over the top and climbed up and went to sleep! I say "climbed" because the bed is so high! My poor kitties can't even get up on it without a chair next to the bed.

You can see how high it is. The red pole is a broom handle without the broom on it. I had it there so I could fish something out from behind the water bed and forgot about it. But you can see how much more of the handle is showing with the water bed.

It's a dream to sleep on! At least so far. I just had an hour long nap and it took me a bit to fall asleep, probably because I was so overtired. I have to do some laundry this evening and wash my mattress pad and make the bed up properly. So that might help.

I'm scared of falling out of bed though!
With the water bed I frequently woke up jammed between the wood side and the bladder. Now if I roll over that far I'll drop more than 4 feet to the floor!

Glad to hear that the new bed seems to be a success thus far. The height of them is a little mind boggling, isn't it? Never fear, though, the adjustment comes quickly. I sleep with a bed hog, and he has yet to even come close to chasing me out of it
, where, with the waterbed, I was often right up against the rail.

Congratulations on a good purchase!! and sweet dreams!

Congrats on the new bed! If you are worried about falling out, you could do a little re-arranging and put it in a corner so that the head of the bed and one side are protected.

Unfortunately I don't have a corner to do that. The only corners are under the window and there is a baseboard heater that runs along the wall. Plus the bed is taller than the window sill!

Mine is just as high as your's and all of my cats manage it fine. They jump up on the counters which are higher - and from there on top of the fridge (another 4+ foot nearly vertical). I'm sure your cats will jump up there too, once they get used to it.

I haven't fell out of my bed yet, though my DH did accidentally kick me off one night when we were horsing around - I landed on top of the electric blanket control box and it left a large bruise on my hip.
If you think you possibly will roll out - keep the side clear or only have soft stuff around your bed.
BUT, chances are you'll be more comfortable in this bed and won't be moving around as much at night to roll out.

My bed is tall too. I love it. I hope you sleep like a cat your first night in it. I would say sleep like a baby but I've had three of them and they never slept all that great,LOL.

Congrats on the new bed!
I hope it helps you sleep soo much better!!!

One advantage to having it a little high up off the floor is that you can get some of those under the bed storage containers if you need to make space in your apartment!
(That's what I did with my bed! I raise it a little high and I can fit several storage containers under there with clothing/shoes by season/etc so I keep it organized! )

Another thought for you about the kitties getting up: I know Cindy was freaked by this new thing -- until I picked her up and put her up there. She got down right away, but within a couple of minutes jumped up on her own, and it was HERS.
It's about having the image of where they are jumping TO, and once they have that, the distance doesn't seem to be an issue.

Hope you had a good night sleep

And yup, you'll be surprised how quickly you get over the height of it
Well at least I did.

The only thing I had a prob with, is finding bottom sheets with VERY deep pockets.

We have a couple sets now, but I haven't been able to find a flannel set to fit

That's like my bed as well. It has a really deep mattress to start with, but has an extra mattress stitched on top which is about 2 1/2" thick so i have to climb up

Yep! That soft mattress pillow top!

I did make the right decision! This bed is like sleeping on a cloud! I woke up this morning with hardly any aches and pains.

Getting into the bed is not really that difficult. One knee up and I climb up. Getting out is a whole different story. I have to wiggle myself around in the bed so that I'm across the bed (width-wise) and then wiggle myself off until my feet touch the ground!

Abby has claimed the bed as her's! She absolutely loves it. I put Chynna on the chair last night and sort of pushed her up so that she could see that she could get to the top of the bed. After that she was a pro. Slept with me on and off during the night, and even chased Abby off the bed a few times.

I'm washing my mattress cover right now. I don't think the corners are going to be deep enough for the depth of the mattress and pillow top though, but it will have to do for the time being.

It was expensive, but you have to think of all the hours your spending asleep in it, so it's worth it

The only small problem with it having that extra mattress on top, you have to really streeeeetch the fitted sheet over the corners

Yep, true. I can JUST get 15" pockets on ours. Next time I'm buying sheets, I'll hold out for 17" pockets. The pillow top is absolutely worth it, though. As Linda said, like sleeping on a cloud -- and at the same time, you feel 100% supported.

Glad your first night did not disappoint, Linda.

Wow it looks comfortable. I like high beds as well I had to switch to one when I changed beds just after I moved into my place now. It is much easier for my knees.

Looks nice!!

When DH and I got our bed I had difficulty getting in it because it was so high...I sort of have to stand on my toes a bit and then get in. The first night I felt like my nose was about the touch the ceiling in our bedroom!
On the plus side, now that my belly is getting big I can just slide out!
