Merlin's Hope: Ragdoll and Maine Coon Rescue (MHCR) is named after a beloved 16-year-old Birman, Merlin, who was dumped at a humane society because his owners didn't want to pay for the medical care he needed. MHCR is a private rescue and privately funded. They rescue Ragdolls, Maine Coons, and other long-haired cat breeds. They gladly accept donations, but are much more interested in finding quality foster homes to open spaces for the many cats currently on their waiting list.

This is where I got Lucky, Bugsy and Hope from. It is a place that deeply cares for the cats, and unfortunately they are in serious trouble right now.

Below is a letter I received from the owner, MeLinda Hughes, which I am passing along to you, my friends. If you have it in your heart to help them in any way, we truly appreciate it… Of course the best case scenario would be for you to adopt one of their wonderful cats!

“Intake this year has increased dramatically, in part due to the economic downturn the country is experiencing. In addition to the large number of cats that we have saved from kill shelters around the state of Texas, we are also working with a retiring Ragdoll breeder (this is Bugsy's Breeder
)
and a backyard Ragdoll breeder. We are trying to help these two breeders by taking in all of their adoptable cats. Thus far, we have taken in 30 cats from these two breeders and are estimating approximately another 30 before the end of the year. Unfortunately, since these cats are coming from breeders, none of them have been vetted. In order to be able to continue assisting these breeders in getting cats out of these less than desirabe situations, we desperately need financial assistance from you, our supporters.

Our basic veterinary cost per cat for spay/neuter, FIV/FeLV test, and vaccinations is $60-$70 (depending on if the cat is in heat or pregnant). We are also having to treat these cats for chronic upper respiratory infections, chronic diarrhea, earmite infections, and flea infections. This doesn't even include our food and litter expenses! Most of these cats are coming in out of coat and underweight, which means that we are having to feed really expensive food.

Please consider helping us financially by sending donations to [email protected] via Paypal. Of, if you prefer to send your donation directly to the vet, please contact me for our vet's information.

Obviously, we are also in dire of adopters and/or fosters. Please consider adding a purebred Ragdoll or other cat to your family at this time.

As always, thank for you support and care.

MeLinda Hughes"
