How do I know if Roxy is lonely?
Roxy is 2 ½ now, and until last August she lived with my other cat, Villy. Villy sadly crossed the rainbow bridge at the end of August.
How do I tell if Roxy is lonely? The two cats were fairly independent from each other, though Roxy used to follow Villy around and try to get her to play with her.
I just feel bad when I go to work, and sometimes because of the bad weather, Roxy is inside all day, for up to 9 hours while I’m at work, and alone. I know she probably sleeps all day, but I still wonder.
She seems to have made friends with a cat that lives just up our track. (Billy) At first she growled and hissed at him, but now he either wanders down to our house, or she goes up his direction and they sit near each other. Do cats make friends like that? He comes down to our house sometimes and sits by the gate and calls for her!
Roxy is enjoying having all the attention from us, and is more affectionate since she’s been on her own. I’ve heard that cats are solitary creatures anyway, but then I see cats on here who seem to be really close.
Any input will be gladly received!

I think Roxy could probably be a little lonely. But from what you say, they were not terribly close, just used to the company of each other. It's nice she has a new aquaintance down the road. It gives her a bit of feline company. Try leaving a radio on low when you go to work. That may make her feel like there is someone somewhere in the house. What about a new friend for her? That would put your mind to rest. I get a mental picture of Roxy and the other cat sitting close washing in the sun!
Cats are both IMO. They like solitude, but enjoy other cats as well. Mine are all huddled together right now sleeping. Later, they may be getting on each others nerves!
