It's been more than 20 years since I last had flannel sheets. Has the material or way they're made changed since then? I recently purchased a set that had excellent reviews saying how good the quality is, but I was very unhappy with them. I really only have a problem with the flat/top sheet. One side (brown side) feels normal but the other side is an off-white and feels kind of rough, unlike flannel. My mother thinks they're either cheap or defective. I don't know if the other set I bought feels the same or not. I didn't want to take them out of the package. I hate that it's so hard to sample these kinds of things in the store. I'm not sure if they're supposed to be made this way or not.

Take a step into the 21st century!!!LOL Ditch those flannel sheets for either jersey or if you are one of those cold people, fleece. Both come in different weights, and are far easier to care for than flannel, and they don't develop those annoying rough spots. They do, however, attract every cat hair in the house, fleece moreso than jersey. Just don't buy dark colours if you go with jersey - it bleeds, bleeds a LOT......and don't ask

Fleece is good but I want a flannel pillowcase and flat sheet. I can't find any stores than sell them separately and hate buying bedding online. I thought the flannel flat sheet would be great during the summer. When the attic fan is on it can get cool in the house. A regular sheet is too light and I can't find any lightweight blankets. I've been using my fleece blankets as fitted sheets. But I need a flannel pillowcase when it's cold. It has to be flannel.

I find it depends on the type of flannel. I have one set with the whitish back side and two that are solid all the way through and I'll admit the solid ones are softer.

If you're decent with a sewing machine, have you thought of making your own? You could pick up a really high quality cotton flannel at a quilting store, then know for certain what you're getting (and you'd only have to make the pieces that you wanted).

I think as with anything it depends on the quality of the sheets you buy. I use flannel sheets all the time and have found that they are not all the same that's for sure.
If you get them on sale or for a lower price chances are they are going to be kind of picky and rough.

However if you get a higher quality set they are generally very soft and comfortable.

Washing them first does also make a difference, I usually run them throw the wash with some extra fabric softener once greatly improves their feel and texture.

I love my flannel sheets! I bought an expensive set on sale last Boxing week, and they're still good and comfy. No rough spots, and they're a solid colour all the way through. It's something you really have to go up in price to get the good quality.

I have a couple of flannel sheet sets and I love mine. They are made by Northern Nights and I ordered them from TV, either QVC or HSN. With anything ordered from these places you can send them back within 30 days for any reason and get a full refund. Maybe you should try them next time.

Ooo, we use cotton flannel sheets all year long, it's always cold here by the shore! Your flannel sheets should be soft and fuzzy on both sides, you should return the ones you have if they are scratchy. Check out The Company Store for some great flannel sheets! They have the very best bedding - they are soft and barely show wear. You can pick up great stuff for very little money in their clearance area if you check it often.

(Their down comforters are also beautiful and last for years and years!)

Check back every few days and you might be able to get them when they go on clearance. Our sheets from there last about seven years (and usually eventually start to get holey 'cause of the kitties claws more than anything else). Stuff from The Company Store is highest quality and wears like iron, no kidding.

I got a couple sets of flannel sheets last winter from Kohl's - they are great!! Kohl's is great as long as you don't pay full price for anything (since things are usually on sale)

I get my flannel sheets off QVC. The Northern Nights brand are great! My Aunt got me hooked on them a few years ago. They are bit pricy (depending on what you concider pricy for sheets I guess) but sooo worth it!

Lord, do I LOVE my flannel sheets! I have 3 sets. The nicest ones came from a yard sale last year--brand-new, un-opened package--they were $80 sheets; she sold them for $5.00. They're king-size (we have a queen bed), but they work. I can also turn down the thermostat at night because of them, which saves money.

I love our pillow-top mattress, too. I hate to get otu of bed in the A.M.

I love flannel sheets, I won't use any other kind, even in the summer. In general, the more expensive the sheets, the better the flannel is. The really cheap flannel sheets are awful. But I can't afford the really nice ones. So I go mid-grade and get them from Lands' End.
